Does every champ need to be mechanical?

I like the Aatrox rework quite a bit, I think it's really good actually, but did they really need to make the q and the w the way it is? I haven't played Aatrox in my life, but Im pretty sure he's someone who autos quite a bit. I feel like this rework and Irelia's rework really turned away from auto attacking, why is that?
