Returning to league, Can someone help me out with the current game status?

I quit playing around patch 6.6 or 6.7 because i just got kinda bored of it. But watching the worlds grand finals this year made me want to play again but i realized i probably missed a lot of things. Can someone give me a run-down of wtf happened while i was gone? if anyone can answer any of these questions it would be a huge help.

What is the meta like?
What champs are good in each lane?
What items changed? ie. what are the best items to buy in general?
Did graves get his cigar back?
General game play changes?

I can't help you with most of these questions, but rest assured that Graves vapes now. The "good" champs right now are top kennen, crit vayne, zyra, tankko(again) and nidalee, I think, based on all the complaints. Check the preseason changes for items and stuff since it's changing soon, because Assassin update.
