What's the counterplay for Morgana mid?

Context: yes, I played against Morgana mid. I also play Morgana mid time to time. Her playstyle seems pretty oppressive to me, based on my experience of both laning as and against her. The experience I can remember is Morgana (me) vs Diana, and Viktor (me) vs Morgana.

Her waveclear is insanely strong, and she can negate most attempts to all-in with her Black Shield and Dark Binding. It is difficult to zone her off due to her snare and all-in potential, as well. It's hard to all-in against Morgana, but it's also hard to roam because of how strong her waveclear is.

Diana couldn't do anything pre-6, since if she walked up she'd get snared, and if she somehow dodged it, I'd just black shield and walk away. She'd sometimes land some Q pokes, but since Morgana can clear very fast, landing those pokes meant not being able to clear. Since she's melee, when I waveclear, she'd often get hit by some part of it as well. Even after 6, Black Shield before Moonfall meant Diana could never kill me. She tried to roam, but she failed the gank and lost a few waves. She fell behind.

As Viktor, we both used our waveclears until our mana ran out. Morgana backed first after a bad trade, and tried to all-in me while I had no mana and she hit 6. I was already 6, but I had no mana for ult. Because of an aggressive dive, though, she died and I lived. I upgraded my scepter to upgrade my E to waveclear, but even then our waveclears were about even. I had to use more mana (I had to use both my E and Q to match her waveclear), though, and she slowly won the attrition. I also got ganked, but even if I hadn't I would have slowly gotten pushed in (I also didn't ward enough). I tried to roam a few times after pushing Morgana in (by positioning aggressively and using Q to trade), but she quickly cleared and I had to go back before I could achieve much. We won from the enemy team being tilted. I think I also outscaled her?

I wanna say this is not a QQ thread (like I said, I play Morgana mid time to time), but I want to know how to play against her.

Counterplay for what? Not being able to kill her? Not everything goes your way. Farm the lane, push it and roam other lanes.

Don't get me wrong...it's a boring lane.

It feels like I just can't do anything against her. Hard to push her in, hard to all-in, hard to roam. I guess she isn't very good at trades, but she can often just avoid trading altogether by forcing me to waveclear instead of fight, and any attempts to trade usually gets interrupted by her snare. When I was fighting against Diana, she had to farm while standing on the Tormented Soil frequently. It feels like no matter what Diana does, I win: I either damage her, or she misses CS.

thats how a counter works.

Does Morgana counter Diana? In that case I guess Morgana isn't that oppressive in general.

most likely. I feel like galio or chogath would be good against her, though.

^This. She is one of those champions that are dependent on roams if you want to get ahead. See :

  3. Leblanc For farm botting

Play aggressive. Bait out her Q then go behind minions so it procs on one of them. Then all she has is her W. Go and harass, and now she has to decide whether she wants to W on you, or the minions. Chances are, she'll pick farm, so you can just keep harassing her out of lane and then farm when you push her back.

She'll have her E up half the time you go for a trade, at best, so play around it. Bait her kit out.

I think that makes sense. So mostly play around her Q, I guess? Her E has a fairly long cooldown at all ranks, too.

That's what I'd do. Gotta be careful of W due to easy Thunderlord's but no Q means she loses the trade, end of.

She took DFT that time, but I can see TLD being very strong in lane as well. In that case I guess I shouldn't stand in between melees and ranged creeps while she has her W up. I should stand behind minions to avoid her Q though, right? Should I stand far behind then? Or maybe if I'm playing someone with dashes/blinks, I can position more aggressively and try to dodge her Qs (although she probably would just hold it in that case).

I would stand between melee and caster, but off to the side so you can walk away if she Ws, but also let a minion face-tank her Q.

You need better wave clear. AOE preferably. When she throws down her soil kill all the Minions and then the wave will push her under tower. Rinse repeat

It used to be a lot worse, her W could kill ranged creeps from level 1 before they nerfed it's early damage.

Just farm. She's terrible outside of the laning phase.

Morgana is countered by anyone who doesn't rely on CC for kills and who can burst her, also any champ that relies on more ad damage to negate her black shield.
