I'm wondering what people think of the idea of specific gameplay interactions between champions, and what ideas people may have.
Pretty awesome - though it should be limited to things that don't impact gameplay at all.
I believe the word "achievements" best sums up the lack of effort a designer needs to excite players into doing some preeeety lame and unexciting things.
taunt animations vs. specific champions is pretty solid IMO. At least if you bind joke/taunt/dance/laugh commands to hotkeys so you can use them whenever.
The idea would be to take these two characters that are rivals, and making a special interaction that actually impacts gameplay, to encourage people to really live out a fight between rival champions.
Impacting gameplay in any meaningful way would be pretty bad ~95% of the time.
People would pick champions specifically for their rival interactions, or avoid playing certain champions entirely because their "rival" is popular in the given meta.
You'd be much more likely to damage a sense of lore and mythos by drawing a lot of attention to maths and statistical interactions, reducing champions from characters that can do a few sweet moves into a string of numbers.
Only time I could really see such a buff happening is if champion X counters champion Y way harder than they should in the first place, and no logical change to champion Y's skillset can really compensate for that outside of a target special case.
In such a scenario you could make champion Y not terrible and balanced by removing an oppressive counter.
