Should Urgot Be Nerfed?
On the Boards and Reddit's I've been seeing a lot of differing arguments about Urgot
and whether/how much he should be nerfed. He's now being put up in the roster alongside Graves
and Irelia
. Overall some of the main points I've seen and do not necessarily agree with are.
I will say that I started playing Urgot a few days before he started showing up in Pro play so will probably have a bit of a bias.
- The three main reasons why he is seeing pro play are:
-Meta Shifts which saw his counters/alternative toplaners get nerfed (Trundle
,Mundo
, Fiora
etc.) and
more dive/damage heavy bruisers and assassins get buffed, which Urgot loves to fight because his kit is anti dive, he wants you to come to him.
-Urgot can do fine with most runes so he can abuse the current unsealed/timewarp-tonic/corrupting potion which makes his laning phase great
-His weaknesses of falling off mid game, low mobility/easily kited, and the need to circle someone with his knees in a teamfight, can be compensated for if
you have a highly coordinated team (kind of like Astrox right now)
-Urgot has had very few balance tweaks this season, has always seen little play and wasn't regarded as a high priority target until worlds, the meta just shifted to make him strong
- He's like Darius
, a juggernaut who has a strong laning/1v1 phase and transitions well into mid game, while also providing teamfight potential, but is also prone to being kited an played around. - Timewarp tonic is getting nerfed hard (doesnt make duration last longer and now gives low amounts of flat health and mana) so Urgot wont be as strong
There are of course many points I probably missed and I'm no expert on Urgot or game balance.
Personally I think he's a what a Juggernaut should be, a good amount of tank stats and reliable damage. He also has his weaknesses of being kited/poked an low knee CD early on. He also might feel strong due to the fact that in a high damage/mobility meta Urgot has enough damage and tank stats to win against a lot of the current champions being played. At the same time I can also see that he can be strong in alot of situations and in the late game a giant 10/0 crab scuttling at you at Mach 5
might not give the impression that he falls off. Overall I'd be okay with urgot getting some minor nerfs first and see how that affects his winrate/play and then go from there.
I'd want to hear more from people about what they think of Urgot and how/if he should be balanced.
