Okay, I think we've done enough vision experimenting

Please bring back green wards, the yellow trinket is just not cutting it at all, getting camped by the jungler has never felt so oppressive because of how little vision you have access to early on. And Lord forbid you're a support who gets behind and isn't able to get an early sight stone, because of how cheap pinks are, the little wards you do place get instantly cleared and you can't really do anything about it.

Even with Sightstone you need to be conservative with the wards because of reduced charges

A Miss Fortune7 votes

Even then 4 charges wasn't really that much taking in consideration it filled up an entire slot and you only got more every time you backed.

as a support main, the game has never felt less fun before. no wards, sightstone holds less charges, can't ward defensively because pinks are visible, pinks are 25 gold less now so your trinkets can get cleared really easily, etc etc.

Then Just use the pink wards then. They are now the same price as a Green. If your primary goal is to prevent a river gank, a single pink should suffice.

But pink can't guard the multiple ganking angles.

But pink can't guard the multiple ganking angles.

Neither can the one green you normally buy.

Besides, multiple ganking angles, combined with powerful early game aggression, usually means that junglers like Lee Sin, Rek'Sai, Shaco and Evelynn are dominant (and all of them are picked quite often recently). Vision isn't enough to deal with them anyway, so stop crying. Ganking junglers are strong, so play passive all lane. Don't over extend, don't take risks, just farm, let the enemy push your lane, and then YOUR OP ganking jungler will be the one dominating.

Laners crying all day because they can't adapt, I swear.

Between one green and trinket, I could cover quite a bit. At least early on. I don't notice it as much in bot, but definitely as a midlaner I miss the extra ward.

You know, considering Riot's philosophies concerning the preseason and minion pushing changes, this makes a lot of sense.

Making early-game junglers powerful puts the pressure on the offense. They are the ones who, in theory, should be making the risks to get their team ahead (and also in theory, fall off, because the counter to this is to play defensively and farm up for late game, when these junglers are less effective). Less vision means these junglers have more options, and laners need to play this game safely, i.e. if you don't have vision of someone, assume they are in any given bush.

People too easily forget that this is a fog of war game. Not every action should be known by all parties.

The counter to early ganking pressure is counter jungling and dragon control.

If I'm blue side, I will often start at my opponents red. Even if he starts in red side, you don't have vision of red from Krugs. Me and my top laner can steal that camp and punish early gankers hard. They need the damage and regen from red buff for healthy and fast clears. It often slows their first gank by a full minute, unless they started blue and then just went from red to top, in which case they likely won't get a kill because they don't have red.

Dragons are very important. Solo the first one at level 4, call them a minute before hand. Group in the river at least 40 seconds before so you're in position to poke the enemy away and take it as it spawns.

Interesting start. I don't often jungle because it's my worst role, for reasons that this shows pretty well. There's just so much that you can do at any one moment, clever ideas like this don't come to me because I'm still trying to focus on the basics. Counter jungling's risk vs. reward is pretty low if you're bad at jungling so I often don't even try it. I'll give this a shot sometime though.

Good tips, I'll keep them in mind.

Oh! I have more for you then!

The best way to help your team if ganking isn't your strong suit is to build a Tracker's Knife (the jungle item that doesn't change your Smite). It gives you 2 extra wards that you can use to light up the enemy jungle.

Not only does this let you know when it's safe to steal camps, it also lets you act as a shot caller, pinging and warning your laners that the jungler is in their area.

Also the opposite works. If you see that red side jungler is at his raptors, you can let your bot lane know to go all out, and even gank and dive without fear of counter ganks.

OneSmoothDude1 votes

You don't need them to. Put the pink in the more defensive that you may or may not be able to defend. If you move up, place a trinket in the more immediate area.

Scenario: You are blue side bot lane. Put a pink in your tri-bush. With that covered, they can only come from river, or the enemy lane (or from behind your turret, but if you're getting clown fiesta'd the trinket won't tell you anything that overall map awareness hasn't already). So if you move up, trinket the river. Things change if they have Eve or any jungler who can come from the enemy tri-bush (Shaco, Rek, Lee, Zac, J4, etc.); play accordingly. Same for red side top lane.

On the other side...same thing, actually. Pink your tri (it's not as defensible, but it's better to have constant vision of that than place it in non-defensible positions like a lane bush or river) and trinket the lane or river if you move up.

After lane, it's a different story. But you mentioned ganking angles, and the system we have now covers them just fine.

As for mid lane...I don't even know, man. It's not as formulaic. But I know you couldn't cover all six ganking angles last season and you still can't this season, so it's a moo point.

But you can only have one pink ward at a time. It's obvious, the support can kill it, and you still have a ton or brushes to ward.

K and what is your point? The game has a fog of war for a reason, and that reason iisnt so you can remove it all with ward spam. Nut up learn to play the game not spew wards and farm.

Visible ward. Nuff said. All the enemy bot laners have to do is wait until you are no longer close to that spot and kill it.

Imo pink are a problem atm, they're somehow too vulnerable to be used other than defensively if you aren't ahead, and if the enemy team is ahead they are very hard to get rid off without getting gibbed because they take 5 hits to kill.

This is a common misconception that no matter how often it's repeated on the boards, is not true.

When Riot teaches everyone how important warding is and everyone actually wards, I'll support people's ideas on how to make warding better.

This idea is not one of them though.

you didnt read the post now did you pink wards arent enough, get cleared so easly and force you to buy another for supports who are behind ,250 gold spent on wards can be vital

and they can only protect you from a certain point of view what happend at the other side ? well buy a pink ward to know and waste more gold

edit= and yellow wards, well the cooldown is so huge, a jungler could just go farm come back and gank while you"re trinket is still on cooldown :)

this stuff still surprises the heck out of me. some of you would much rather play with no fog of war so that everyone knows where everyone is at all times. vision is a huge part of the game as in the importance of when and where to places wards. it's more important now than it used to be ON PURPOSE. the vision we had in the past was too much to be honest. it removed junglers main purpose which is to roam and snowball a lane. early ganks and lane pressure makes the game better over all because you either get better with your champion or get slaughtered over and over because you aren't learning anything. yes wards are nerfed and the good one is straight out removed, which forces you to compensate for it. It's a team game, get the team involved. For solo Que ranked/normal it's rough due to lack of true teamwork but that's where you have to learn to protect yourself first and foremost. Change your playstyle to adapt to changes and meta's. Nothing stays the same in the game for long, things are constantly changing to keep the game fresh and to present people with new challenges to sort through. LoL is a 5vs5 chess match with endless pawns and many different strategies for success. Find what works for you and adapt to the counterplay. Getting ganked in bot lane constantly? Where is your jungler at? If he isn't helping to protect/countergank your lane he should be off somewhere else ganking another lane and if he isn't then he isn't doing his job very well. Even with all the vision in the world if the enemy is rolling deep on your lane there isn't much you can do about it without help. The vision game works the same for both teams, they have the same struggles you do, it's not just one sided. Don't blame the wards because you aren't doing well, learn to adapt and overcome the challenge you are faced with. Myself I'd like to see all the vision removed, no wards, no Ashe hawkshot nothing. Also remember, if you have pushed the enemy and are out of position without any kind of safety wards off behind you or to the side and you get ganked..... you deserved it. Getting 4vs2 against you in the bot lane over and over.... well that means that one or both the other lanes should be pushed up if they aren't down helping you out. Change with the changes or die to the changes, the choice is truly up to you. The game is constantly evolving to be more challenging and unpredictable, maybe the changes have gone beyond your learning arc and you should go back to paper rock scissors. Myself I love the blue wards in combination with the new vision items for support. I really don't care if they kill the blue... I still got what I wanted from it and that was that I saw them coming. Usually I just have my lane partner play a little safe until we get warded back up again and continue the grind.

I think that's the whole point. They wanted to get away from having constant sight on the whole damn map.

MeleeNuke3 votes

I feel guilty not buying wards much when it is available. Now I just feel like I need too. Also if Riot decides to bring it back give us a spare inventory slot specifically for wards!

Athenes Lulu2 votes

Don't forget that the totems are gutted especially at early levels.

Maybe buff that and it wouldn't be absolute trash. But too bad Rito did both: remove greens AND gut the crap out of yellow trinkets.

Silver Fluffenbu2 votes

i usually put off sightstone until lane is won. a pink ward in the tribush on blue side or in the pocket for as needed on red. four wards between an adc and support are enough.
don't ward if the enemy jungler shows on the opposite side of the map. don't ward if you're not pushing lane. don't ward right before adc and you back

Taarki2 votes

you mean 2 wards every three minutes between the support and adc. And they don't even last that 3 minutes.

Silver Fluffenbu2 votes

you don't need constant ward coverage. You do not need to actively push the wave to tower unless there's a purpose to it. And then, when there is a purpose to it, the adc or support will have at least 1 ward between them even when wards have been necessary in the side bushes.

Taarki1 votes

So you are saying that 1 ward that lasts 60 seconds on a 180 second CD per player is enough to defend against 3 different angles of possible gank? You can be playing defensively and the jungle can come through the lane through the bushes and gank you almost under your turret and you would have no idea that they were there. And don't even think about warding dragon, because if you do, you will have no idea that a gank is coming. So free dragons for the junglers to solo. I can't wait for people to start spamming udyr to take dragon at level 2 because no one can ward dragon because if they do, they will most likely die in lane due to a jungler gank.

Silver Fluffenbu1 votes

I'm saying map awareness, an instinct for the flow of the game, and wards are enough to stop a gank most of the time. and raw mechanical skill is enough to survive a gank. And if you choose not to keep tabs on dragon, that's on you, especially if you know there's someone on the enemy team who can solo.

Taarki1 votes

So that is less of map awareness, and more of a guessing game. Like oh the jungler has been missing for the first 10 minutes of the game, since I don't have enough wards, I can either ward dragon, or I can ward against a gank. And if I choose wrong, it isn't really my fault, but I still get punished because we don't have the resources we need to be prepared.

So not get any farm and just let the enemy do whatever they want? That's not really an option, also it's the kind of passive gameplay that Riot has said before that they dislike.

You still get farm. Just less than the enemy. And a blood bath where you feed constantly isn't good. As long as this fast meta persists, passive play and waiting to group for mid game is the smarter, safer strategy.

Cosnirak2 votes

You don't have to lose a single cs or let the enemy do whatever they want. You don't even have to avoid fighting the enemy in lane. Just don't stick around if you're really low and don't push past the halfway point. Control the wave, don't push it. That's all you gotta do to avoid the majority of ganks. Check your map often as well to make sure the other enemies aren't roaming. Ward what you can.

I figure, you're winning the lane you should be able to defend your pink and then just green ward other routes, and if you're losing you probably should be playing pretty damn careful anyway.

Riot low key fucked the players with these garbage vision changes imo, I could live with green wards being taken out, but why did they have to make the warding trinket trash too, I just want my greater warding totem back... sad face.

Sevixys1 votes

IMO the current state of wards is just fine. As an allrounder(yeah, support too) I am often the only one in our team who wards. I could argue that most of complainers on this topic are the ones who normally don't ward at all... :)

In the early game, trinketitem 3340 and Pinkitem 2043 are more than enough ward coverage for a solo lane. (if you actually think what you are doing with those wards). As a support, I often get an early sightstoneitem 2049 (after 2tier supp item and boots). After that I have even less problems.

The blue trinketitem 3363 is my new loveitem 3110 . The range is just ridiculous, I can easily ward red Bush from drake and that ward will probably sit there for a long while.. ** And the pricing of Pinks**.. Everyone should have gold enough for it.

I am yet to see the new jungle itemitem 1409 in a single game but it feels pretty much like a lackluster :(

My point is that there are many options, some of them better than before.

No one warded earlier. (expect supports) Now that warding has made more casual and easier to afford, no one still wards and everyone starts complaining about Greens. Sad..
