Those tentacles...

It's pretty confusing. Last game I played, we had an Illaoi top and so did the enemy team. I knew that the health bars had different colors but the tentacles weren't very different; in fact, they are the same. Because of that, our team fights were pretty confusing because we didn't know whether to dodge our Illaoi's tentacles or the enemies' tentacles. So I thought up an idea. Your team's Illaoi could keep her color scheme while on the other hand, the enemies' Illaoi could have red tinted tentacles spouting out from the walls and from her idol. I guess it would be a great idea since it would be easier to tell the difference between the two colors.

Personally I feel like they could put a sizable thick "green" or "red" circle around the base of the tentacles, such that it would be easier to distinguish friend from foe.

But what if Rito makes a skin where her tentacles are red? :O

How does this keep happening? They had the same issue with Ekko's time clone.

Lavik11/24/2015, 7:40:38 PM2 votes

I don't know if they should be red per-say........but they should be rendered a different color so that you are able to differentiate between Illaoi's if on both teams.

That's a good point. Unless it's different skins there is no way to differentiate (speculation, haven't mirror matched her yet). I hope Riot sees this.

I haven't seen this yet, but I didn't think it would be a problem... Now that I think about it, it could really annoying... I feel like your idea could work really well, and that this is a small problem which could have big ripples if not fixed pronto. Here's hoping Rito sees this!

Their not tentacles, THEIR GENTICLES!!!

Wolfadactyl11/27/2015, 6:13:10 AM2 votes

The biggest problem is that during her ult the new tentacles are invulnerable, so they lose health bars, making it extremely difficult to tell them apart. Definitely needs to be something done to make them very different from each other.

For Carthage11/25/2015, 1:59:41 AM1 votes

So you're saying give her literally the same treatment that all other champ's abilities have gotten for this exact reason? =|

Remember when they made a better version of Heimer who's also a sassy black lady?

Lintu Puck11/25/2015, 2:26:28 AM1 votes

Health bars. your illaoi is blue health, enemy illaoi is red health.

That's only going to happen in Norms. So anything spawned like that is confusing. Teemo shrooms, gp barrels. All are the same looking. They design a champ for it being unique in the game. My guess is that your going to have to deal with it.

Definite oversight by them. Blind pick exists.

Jayce has blue and red schemes. Same must have Olaoi

Nebuul11/25/2015, 9:36:15 AM1 votes

A thousand times this. Health bars at the base of a very long attacker are not enough to determine allegiance. Her tentacles do too much damage to be allowed such an unclear read.

What I find extremely abnoxious is the visual effects for when you're a vessel. GOD FUCKING DAMN it's infuratingly tiring to the eye and clutters my screen with green when I'm trying to find and kill green tentacles, and purple shit when I try to kill purple tentacles.

Couldn't they put a UI overlay for whenever you become a vessel? Far less invasive, still gets the point across.

IronChefBoyardee11/25/2015, 1:18:25 PM1 votes

PLEASE. Played a mirror match last night and even the 4 other people in chat were saying it's a little confusing

Grimztaa11/25/2015, 3:04:04 PM1 votes

they wont go as far as to do this because this is only for blind mode.. and a few other modes.... once the champ falls off the map, its likely both teams will have the same champ. good idea tho

General Esdeath 11/25/2015, 4:30:00 PM1 votes

Only reason this wasn't done was because draft pick (Like ranked) only allows one of each champ

Spoofghoul11/26/2015, 11:38:02 AM1 votes

how about you can both use each others tentacles

Skógur11/26/2015, 5:48:56 AM1 votes

Definitely a good idea to have some sort of way to determine which team Illaoi is on by altering the tentacles. Although, I do agree with Penns about Riot creating a new skin with red tentacles. Although, Riot would probably think that through and just assign one colour to her tentacles when she is an enemy and steer away from that colour when creating new skins.

Great post!

Penguin Eclipse11/24/2015, 10:53:38 PM1 votes

Yes, they should do it similar to how they tint enemy Syndra spheres.

Partholonian11/24/2015, 11:55:22 PM1 votes

They probably didn't think about it because it can't happen in draft. Some kind of visual distinction does seem necessary.

I want to see her if they ever bring back One For All (regular or mirror) though...
