Goodnight Sweet Prince, Veigar #SaveVeigar2015

I love me some Veigar, his personality and his kit was, while not as optimal and was riskier than other casters, felt amazing when you did well. As a major retro fan, I also got Final Boss Veigar when it came out.

When I saw DFG/BFT going away, I wondered what buff they would do. There was some paranoia in me that they may screw up E, but I could not think of a way they'd do it that wouldn't ruin him so I figured they'd leave it alone or put some damage amp based on how many stunned. Needless to say, this did not happen.

While I cannot say for sure about the Q change (not a fan of the longer cd), we all know what the real issue is and it has been spammed all over these forums and reddit, but Riot needs to hear it from every person that is upset by this.

Event Horizon, Veigar's E, was a potent CC but took more skill to aim than the typical CC (coughAnniecough). Landing it can mean getting that poke on the enemy. He cannot 100-0 yet, people have to remember Veigar can't do that for a while until he is fed and a Veigar not fed is mostly there for his CC.

Landing his E, if you miss, you will:

  1. High chance of death
  2. Miss W completely

Essentially, he has two less skills with the new change since landing E reliably is not going to happen anymore and W doesn't land reliably without E.

But is it really that bad? Let us consider a few things:

  1. Cho'gath's Rupture is a shorter cast time but covers the entire circle. Veigar's E stun ONLY affects the border and they can still act while inside of the circle.

  2. Riot loves making champions with mobility abilities. Some of which, are really strong champions (i.e. Lee Sin, Zed, Leblanc, every other assassin, several ADC, etc). This means the .75 delay they can press one button and you are dead because they will be on you. Hell, they don't even need to use it probably half the time and just walk through.

  3. The only real way to land E now is on yourself as you are "fleeing" and even then it still won't be difficult to dodge. You may live now, but why are you having to get so close to land it? If you don't kill them there you are dead regardless when they get out of the stun. If you miss either way, you are doomed.

  4. Other champions are more destructive with their CC, particularly Annie can charge her stun quickly and use it with Tibbers is much more destructive than Veigar's E. Tibbers with stun is an entire area, not a border, and damage, with a short CD for an ult like this. How is something like this ok but Veigar's E is not? Counterplay? How do you counterplay Tibbers stun that you couldn't do with Veigar's E (and Veigar's E being easier to dodge)? NOTE: I am not for nerfing Annie, this is just me wanting to understand Riot's mentality.

I have seen PBE notes a lot and some very unusual strange changes they do to champions only to revert. Yet, the most sinful one I have seen on PBE, Veigar's E nerf, was not reverted IMMEDIATELY or even thrown out from SUGGESTION. I am a Dev for a small community game called PVK2 for years, and I am just amazed how Riot could not understand that directional changes to perceive what is healthy (using whatever formula they use for power) does not always mean it is healthy. In our PVK2 game, ranged classes are quite annoying to deal with, but I did not just straight up nerf their movement speed, I chose to nerf them in ways to not ruin the identity of the character and their main tool and/or buffing others.

Riot, do not call these changes a buff by any means. You do not take away a core item from a champion, claim to buff, only to nerf. This makes you lose credibility (not going to go into having lost credibility in other things by what people may say in response to this, just talking about this right now). I expected much better from you Riot who have been around for years. Someone like me who has been a Dev for the time I have for a FREE game which we purposely not make a profit off of, or much of the community of League (as the threads have shown) should not have to tell you this is blatantly a terrible idea with Veigar's E. Revert his E back to normal, no, not lower delay, revert back. This is not fanboyism, this is just... for lack of better word, logic. You want to nerf something else to compensate for this? Then do it, even though it doesn't make sense why you would since lack of DFG/BFT already is a bigger nerf than you can buff. Because losing E you lose W and pretty much have two less skills.

#SaveVeigar2015

This is the first time I ever wrote a hashtag. I wonder if Riot will refund my Final Boss Veigar if they remain stubborn like this. Probably not buying RP to get DJ Sona at this rate from them.

The whole POINT of Event Horizon was not to be an instant stun, but instead to trap enemies inside a cage they could not escape. It may not be the best cc for poor Veigar to have, but that's a different discusson.

It's like Urgot and his ult; it's a great ability that doesn't really fit with the rest of the kit. Both of the aforementioned champions really need full reworks to iron out their kinks...
