For those complaining about ADCs being the 'problem of the game'
Hi, first things first no this isn't a rant. I just want to voice my objection to the overall thought that Marksmen (ADCs) are the 'problem of this game' which I've noticed in a recent thread made in the Boards.
Before I begin, yes I admit I am an ADC 'main' (my all time favorite champion is Jinx
) but I do play in all other roles as well (Top and Middle Lane, Jungle, Support) and I do have experience with what it means to play other types of champions too (I want to diversify my skills). I'm not the best, nor the most experienced player in LoL (I've only started playing about two months ago) and I haven't even played Ranked yet but I still want to share with you my thoughts on this matter.
ADCs are NOT overpowered:
There might be a few whose overall strength makes their current balance indeed questionable (
Vayne?) but generally ADCs are far from overpowered. Unlike most of the other classes and as you probably already know, ADC type champions generally cannot hold their ground on a 'one versus one' scenario; you cannot possibly expect me to believe that a champion who cannot fight one on one is stronger than one who can. Assassins (who have recently received an update) are adepts at taking them down who are often more durable, more mobile and can deal a lot of damage in a matter of seconds of which the first two ADCs are generally lacking. ADCs are especially vulnerable to crowd control and due to lack of mobility and durability a single grab from Blitzcrank
for example is more often than not fatal (as in 'you're caught and there's nothing you can do about it and you're going to die 100%') unlike Fighters, Assassins and Tanks who can at least hold on for a bit in a fight up close and to a lesser extent Mages who can use an ability or two to help themselves out in sticky situations which are always more powerful than those of ADCs. You might say that some ADCs do have escape spells (
) but even those are not enough to fully compensate for their other weaknesses and usually the mobility of Assassins and other classes closes the gap. The only cases where ADCs can fight on their own against their opponents is when they're far ahead in the game ('farm gold', kills, level, items) than their enemies and this can only happen if the ADC is skilled and knows how to outplay his opponent or if the opponent generally performs poorly (or both) and of course this doesn't always happen. It should also be noted that Fighters, Assassins and Mages can often actually overtake ADCs in damage per second whilst being more mobile and more durable in the way (at least this is what I've noticed from personal experience)
ADCs are actually the hardest class to play as
This is my opinion; whether they really are the hardest class or not is somewhat subjective and lets be honest there are difficult and easy champions to play as in all classes whether Fighter, Assassin, Tank, Marksman, Mage or Support. But here's why I hold on to this opinion. ADC champions, having a much larger share of weaknesses than their other counterparts, have to rely on their support to perform well in the lane and in team fights and if your support happens to be one in a bad matchup which results in him having more restricted options to handle the situation with or just inexperienced and poorly performing then you as an ADC will have to find a way to address that or wait for help from the other lanes. Having poor mobility and low health ADCs are much more reliant on good positioning if they're to survive and do well because unlike assassins, tanks, mages and fighters who can endure long enough and/or have enough escape mechanics to make mistakes in positioning more forgiving, being caught in the wrong place at the wrong time as an ADC means you're dead 90% of the time. For example if you're playing as Ashe
and you're alone in the lane and Nocturne
nearby somewhere you don't see uses his ultimate on you, his unreasonably fast auto-attacks and his crowd control (fear) ability thereafter to ensure you have no chance to fight back, you die. Full stop. Additionally, it's much harder to take down champions with mostly auto-attacks than a cheap ability combo (burst) and ADCs are mostly reliant on auto-attacks. You can play as Annie
and all you have to do to get a kill is use the classic stun + ultimate combo and you get a kill in a second or two; play as Jhin
and to get a kill you have to stay back for your front-line teammate to take the damage and protect you, make sure you stay in range of the target but far away enough to be safe from someone trying to jump on you and make a number of auto-attacks to take your enemy down which often takes longer that way than the usual combos mages and assassins do which can provide a burst of damage which kills you very quickly. Unlike champions in other classes who have the luxury to be able to exploit and abuse a cheap ability combo to rack up kills, ADCs are entirely skill reliant in their efforts to do well.
ADCs are NOT the most aggravating champions to play against
Here's the list of the most banned and/or most commonly complained-about champions if you need to be reminded
(my source is here ---> http://www.metasrc.com/all/5v5/current/champions )
Of all these champions only one is an ADC which is Vayne
(and it happens that she's an ADC with an Assassin-esque fighting style) and here I will agree that something may be amiss with this champion's state of balance but when the vast majority of this group belongs to the Assassin/Mage category this must be telling us something about which types of champions are the most aggravating to play against or 'overpowered'. A champion class which isn't considered aggravating or too intimidating to play against enough to receive the most bans in the game is unlikely to be a candidate for being the 'problem of this game'.
Tanks are NOT oppressive to all other classes
It has been argued that Tanks have been buffed to counter the 'aggravating ADCs' to the point that they have become 'oppressive' to all other classes. They maybe be able to soak up a lot of damage to provide fodder and a good counter to ADCs (and for the most part they do) but being unable to dish out much damage back in return means they do struggle to hold off the higher damage fighters, assassins and mages on their own. A Darius
or an Olaf
with good damage items and both being durable can easily take down a full-tank Sion
, often much easier than for a full AD Jinx
because unlike the other two, Jinx being frail and vulnerable to crowd control can't tear through a Tank champion's health fast enough before he kills her on a one versus one fight. Let's be honest here, Tanks have rarely been that much of a problem in a game that one could rightfully call them 'oppressive'.
You all already know the role of an ADC, I don't need to remind you on this thread but as I have showed you ADCs are clearly not the problem in this game. Being a class which isn't so aggravating or difficult to play against, a class which truly requires skill to play as because of its nature of play and the vulnerabilities evident in it ADCs should be respected just as much as any other class of champions in the game. ADCs do have their place in LoL and for their most part they're just right; they have enough strengths to provide an asset for the team and enough weaknesses to be able to be shut down.
There will always be a need for re-balancing in the game given the constant changes in the meta and balance changes apply to all champion types, but instead of 'gutting the ADCs' to 'save the game' (which in fact will actually ruin it) how about you look deeper into your strategies and learn to counter them more effectively? I'm pretty sure they're not that hard to beat and they're not dominating every game you play.
I agree that I might be wrong in my opinion about some aspects and I'm eager to listen to your thoughts, whether you agree or disagree.

due to the amount of micromanagement he requires.
are hands down the most frustrating champions in the game to fight, because you feel like you can't do anything against them.
