Is Ryze Balanced?
Title. I just don't see how he could be. I've played him at least 10 times since rework and never once gotten behind. His csing abilities even when pressured are pretty amazing for a top laner, especially since you can exploit huge wave clearing as early as level 2. His trading damage is amazingly high for a ranged top. I expected this to be so since his q is skillshot and can be stopped by minions, but if he is just e qing then no matter the wave he has an open alley for q after one rotation. Against most if not all fighters and plenty of tanks one rotation at 3 can do half your hp and if he just rotates ewq you're rooted during this entire combo. His cc is far from balanced but I always considered this one of the parts of Ryze's identity. Instacast root, not super op on old ryze after they stopped him from permarooting people. Now the cc has a larger cast range and he has substantially more burst. So I guess the way I've seen it in game, both as Ryze and against Ryze, is that he feels like one of the strongest early laners. In fact it's late game, where Ryze used to excel that you have to actually have skill. Not only is his ult very tactical but it's difficult to utilize effectively which is great and I really like the ability. However, as far as his late game damage goes, I'm sure we've all seen that q that did 1k damage to someone and either one shot them or forced a back at an important time. With that targetable instacast high range root and his huge burst damage I don't see how this could stay healthy, in fact, it feels as if there's basically no effective counterplay. If you get in his face and he uses the right rotation he gets movement speed and a decent shield so now he's just having an easier time hitting q. I suppose you could engage after his w is down but you'd still have to have some mr to take that damage and come out on top. Anyone have any thoughts about how to counterplay him or even how he is balanced? Yes I've considered the skill cap and I just don't think it's as big as they say
