Autofill

Why are we forced to deal with autofill? Why can't we choose whether to have autofill or not? I'd prefer to wait longer in a queue time than have to first time Janna support because I'm autofilled (especially in ranked). It's hard to practice a champion if I'm constantly autofilled out of mid/top lane.

If you could choose to not have an autofill, it'd defeat the entire purpose of autofill.

Well, I disagree because if you see that you will need to wait 35 mins for a mid game, or 23 min for a top game or 40 seconds for a support game which will give you autofill protection next game, it means people will be a lot less frustrated.

Many people claim they want to wait for their role, but I don't think they realise it would mean waiting upwards of 25-30 mins for adc/mid because everyone will just disable autofill. Then gradually some people will learn to alternate between support and their main role.

Obviously this is just a guess.

I learnt Support for pretty much this reason (it was because of good old Pick Order Ranked, but same idea). Also, the client isn't exactly a resource drain, and people can play other things/browse Reddit etc whilst the matchmaker runs, and that will be shorter than a bad game, and costs 0LP.

The best option is of course to make Autofill an opt-in system; that way the people who are willing to make the trade-off can do so, and people who just want to get into a game quickly can still have low queue times.

The problem is that you're assuming people aren't greedy assholes.

They won't opt-in for autofill because it's more of a net bonus to other people than a net bonus to themselves. They'll all expect other people to enable autofill and they'll never enable it themselves because they don't want to run the risk of having to play a role they don't main.

If autofill was optional it'd mean it'd never be used.

Then they can suffer longer queues for that greed. and maybe people will stop being such assholes to Support players. Or maybe even learn the role themselves....

That doesn't make sense. Autofill has no other purpose than to lower queue times. But this autofill system happens without our consent, which annoys me. Having it as an option doesn't defeat the purpose at all, as some people (people who are a "jack of all trades", or enjoy playing several roles) would have no problem with it.

Autofill defeats the purpose of autofill as well as role select Its purpose is to speed up queues. Yet dodging is running rampart either by the autofilled or a team mate who op.gg's the autofilled player who's first timing ryze into an L.

Then defeats role select, by hindering match quality and integrity and removing the ability to get the role you want,

If you give the option to remove autofill, it will greatly increase queue times not just for you, but even people who don't have it disabled.

Just practice 1 or 2 supports in normals for a while until you get them down. It won't kill you.

In my promos I'd rather play a champion I excel at rather than a champion I barely learned just to survive autofill.

By the way, learning a position I don't want to isn't fun. Isn't LoL a video game? Shouldn't the aim be to have fun? How come I have to play positions I don't want to just because of the underlying threat of failing promos because of autofill?

You cant get autofilled in promos

In Promos you get Autofill protection automatically; however, there is no guarantee that your teammates are in Promos as well, so they CAN be Autofilled into positions that they suck at.

Nothing better than having an Autofilled ADC/Supp as the other of those, or a Filled Jungler in any game....

ah true forgot that your teammates don't necessarily have to be in promos -_-

Imma bout to keep it real(fully expect to be massively downvoted for saying this)

You guys need to stop being babies about autofill. We've dealt with ppl sucking in roles since the game has existed and Autofill has made things infinitely better.

Want to know how it was like before autofill? It was pick order. If you didnt get first 2 picks you were screwed. If you got last pick you were support 9 times out of 10 and you could end up on an unlucky streak and get last pick 5+ games in a row. Autofilled isnt the problem, its people not wanting to learn those lanes. If you want my honest opinion, people should be forced into those roles more often.

Mid and top are getting their lanes MUUUCCCHHH more often then that did in the past.

What you described is essentially blind pick, but people still play it. It actually gives you a higher chance to get the role you want.

I play support so autofill doesn't really affect me, but I can understand some frustrations. Honestly, I became a support because I was tired of my teammates fighting over who wouldn't have to do it back in the pick order days. The pre-autofill short queue times were an added bonus (especially when team builder was a game mode, I would love to see that make a comeback).

If it's not already a thing, I would support a tweak to autofill where you would not be autofilled when in your promos. I can imagine the frustration in not playing your best roles when you're trying to rank up. I am a supporter of everyone knowing at least the basics of every role. I think it helps players understand the game better as a whole, and makes them better players overall.

Great thing is, I don't even own many champions. So when I get autofilled sup I just tell them "pref top" and if they don't let me or dodge I end up playing Soraka.

Striving to achieve that perfect 0% winrate Soraka with multiple games played. Funny thing is I'm legit trying, I just suck at Soraka :)

I want autofill disabled so bad, but it's going to suck for me at least because my client "for some odd reason" loses connection to the servers for couple seconds every 10 to 15 mins which cancels out my queue, so in theory if autofilled was disabled queue times would go above 10mins which means i will never find a match because it will be constantly disconnecting, this issue has been happening since the old client.

Here's an advice: I decline every time a queue was dodged/declined by someone else. I've never been autofilled once when applying these tactics.

How do you know if the queue was declined by someone else AND decline the queue yourself?
