Remember back when AP Yi mid was the ultimate cancer, and we thought it couldn't get any worse?

Yeah, we sure came a long way since then.

Surprisingly it got better for a bit... then got extremely worse.

Instead of one hyper cancerous champion, Riot has decided to make a bunch of smaller scale tumors.

Wow. AP Master Yi was just gigantic allegory to how cancer spreads throughout the body. MIND=BLOWN

Skarner That one week where he was relevant, much worse than Zed has ever been.

Remlap12235 votes

I still am not convinced that Juggernaut Skarner was a thing. That shit was so broken I am convinced I must have had a bath salts induced fever dream. I remember the only game I faced him, he was two levels ahead of me, built defense, but 100-0 me in less than a second. It still seems surreal to me.

WoonStruck2 votes

Tbh, Riot didn't really fix that. They simply made him less bursty, but he does the same damage with his current builds without giving up significant tankiness.

Not to mention how the new builds pretty much allow him to ignore the spire mechanic, although its still a huge boon if you fight on one.

Warrior->IBG->Sunfire.

If he gets to you, you still die very quickly.

are you seriously crying about Yi now? and him being "cancer" building AP?

A champ with no offensive abilities scaling with AP and 1 ability that is never used for its intended purpose?

You must be new.

Yi was far different back in season 2.

Naag One3 votes

yea I've read "horror" stories of AP Yi but that was like way way back

what has that got to do with now?

WoonStruck11 votes

Well, we could pretend the OP is sarcastic and say the game feels just as unfun as then.

I'd believe that.

Otherwise someone giving one example of a mistake Riot made when rework Malz, Darius, Fiora, Lucian, etc were all very recent. That's not even counting many of the recent releases.

IMO, we haven't moved forward, balance-wise, at all. Even each season shows this. Massive steps forward throughout a season? Let's throw it all down the shitter with unnecessary preseason changes that take half a year before the game is decently playable again.

Things seemed to be fairly stable until S5/6, and now we seem to be taking massive leaps in the wrong direction.

WoonStruck8 votes

Seems that way almost every season.

Season 3 is the only one that was straight up bad from the start, and the meta got worse and worse as it continued.

The rest improved a few weeks-months after preseason...outside of season 6. Season 5 at least had good moments near the end after cinderhulk ate nerfs.

Mandang04 votes

^This, 100%.

But hey, we don't need more bans as Riot adds more champs because they've gotten sooo much better at balancing, right?

killd0zer4 votes

This isn't true really thought. Season 3 launched with League of Cleaver and then League of Warmogs. The Metagolem wasn't even as bad as those because they were so terrible they got fixed immediately within a patch.

League of Cleaver and League of Warmog's, along with jungle changes, made the season start out terrible. Then they continued by constantly shifting things around in the jungle and the power of the new jungle items, the jungle items were then abused by laners, constantly breaking several champions with each tweak to the items, and then finally, by the end of the season, everybody accepted that junglers will not have a solo impact unless extremely fed unless an amazing user of SotEL, thus defaulted to buying Philosopher's Stone, Aegis, and other support items.

Along with supports, who got to spend more money on warding because junglers grabbed Aegis, since they could get it earlier. Basically, phil stone, rush aegis, teamfight, map control, dominance until other team has an aegis, hope your team was still ahead after whatever gimmick jungle item somebody bought got somebody fed, including assassins. It was exactly the same every game, with the exception of ADC/APC. As an avid player of neither, I do not believe the season was good, nor would I if I were an avid player of either because I would still realize the state of other positions.

FFS, top laners took golems/wolves, bot laners took wolves/golems, mid laners took wraiths. Every. Time. They. Were. Up. It was the default. The standard, which is why that whole mess above was even a thing.

Hinagiku332 votes

Agreed.

Season 3 was utter frustration the entire way through if you jungled. Gone were the days where Shyvana was queen of the jungle and could carry through good counter-jungling. Instead we were second supports on a show string budget.

I loved the Spirit Stone jungle items that really opened up the jungle, but Runic Bulwark dominated builds for faaaar too long.

That doesn't even remotely compare to the 400% AP ratio on his W and 100% AP ratio on his Q back then

Shac Norris13 votes

You didn't even mention the resets..

Vistha Kai13 votes

How about 5 chained Alpha Strikes without any window to, ya know, strike Yi?

Cancer's cancer, but playing AP was fun... like invincible Katarina with 500 MS.

ChaosThief1 votes

Who also had mana.

You just had to pray he runs out and didn't buy athene's.

Need Gold 4 Tent5 votes

The BS was that his Q could chain through minions to hit you a whole screen away. Basically what happened was a no-win situation unless you really held out until lategame, with a very tanky comp (even if you survived lane phase and built tanky, if your entire team was squishy, AP yi would murder them all before murdering you).

  1. You played safe far away from him - he uses minions to hit you, yes from a whole screen away if you're anywhere near a minion chain. The only way to not get hit - literally stay out of exp range.

  2. You decide fk him, you're gonna give him the same pain he's giving you. You trade. Good trade! He's nearly dead and you're still at 1/2! He disappears for about 5 seconds, and comes back into lane full hp (400% ap ratio W at work here, even just the starting ap of 50 with runes/dorans ring will let him heal 200 hp on top of its base heal).

  3. Ok, this isn't working. You build tank so that you can farm at least without worrying about dying. Gratz, you're now a damageless AP carry, the Yi does tonnes of damage (at that stage of the game), and he can go roam and ks laners. You won't put him behind, since his Q will just insta clear any wave so he'll also likely be the most cs'd person in the game.

Granted, it's a gimmick, and smart players (even the ADC) will build banshee's and make him totally useless lategame but the snowball usually ends the game at low level before it reaches that stage. That's the cancer of old AP yi. Doesn't even need Nashor's, that guy doesn't autoattack.

forresto1 votes

Stop talking, I'm gonna start crying over the death of AP trist

Vistha Kai1 votes

She kinda does the same thing, but with AD now.

On the other hand Yi with an average build does near to no damage with Alpha Strikes, nor gets full resets on kills.

forresto1 votes

Eh, not really. The way she does damage is very different now. It's an entirely different feel.

AP yi wasn't that bad, just broken. He wasn't even op, his playstye was just q w r q w q w q w, which was sort of ridiculous.

Battlecast Sona14 votes

nah, he was op dude. He could oneshot entire teams without being targetable for more than 3-4 seconds through an entire fight.

And that was the 3 seconds he charged meditate and healed his entire healthbar.

AP Yi was so, so cancerous. D=

Well, he did score a pentakill in the professional arena... He was broken and OP. He was the worst creation ever abused on League. We can say what we will about Zed and his contemporaries, they aren't as horribly designed as old AP Yi. Though we can half-excuse Yi because he wasn't designed to be played like that, whereas modern creations are designed to do what they are doing right now, but they're doing it, well, like this.

in otherwords you are stalling for time because you, just like almost everyone else, have long forgotten the now nobodies that got dunked by AP yi by a player who was known to dunk nobodies with shitty gimmicks

No, because anyone that was around that long and pays attention to which teams matter and which don't (as you seem to imply you do) knows it was Curse.

Apparently you just lack sufficient memory.

I really doubt you even played during that time given you actually believe that he, of ALL the broken champions ever, was the most broken. You're just spouting back what you read or heard back at us, expecting us to take your opinion as valid.

Jax.

WoonStruck1 votes

Jax was never broken before he got his 4+ items, and even then, a single mage absolutely destroyed him.

AP screwed him over just as hard as he screwed over AD.

Just two relatively balanced extremes; hardly a case of being broken. Just unfun for anyone that's AD. Or Jax if he fought an AP.

I don't think you remember old jax... Gained hp off of AP and AD... And did huge amounts of bullshit.

WoonStruck1 votes

I do remember old Jax.

His only bullshit is what he could do because of dodge.

Given how much 'control' control mages actually had back then, he wasn't a problem without dodge. It was only after Tabi+another dodge item that he became bullshit.
