If you lost lane to Katarina as Garen, a hard counter to her, an AP Assassin's worst nightmare, then you are just suffering from lack of skill.
If you are getting wrecked by Kat as Garen then you are doing something seriously wrong.
Kat can and will wear down a tank through repeated poking that isn't met with counter-attacks. If she beat a Garen, that Garen didn't trade back well.

I notice you're downvoting everyone, so let's do some advice.
You need to bully a Kat as Garen. You cannot allow her to free Q you to shut down your passive.
Levels 1-3 you shoudl absolutely rofl stomp her so she cannot be relevant until she hits 6, at which point, you destroy her.
If he has the stones to shunpo onto you, Q her Ult the moment she spins up and then spin on her face, then Ult her. GG

garen can get poked by kat, then he all in-s with silence and spin, doing 50% of her health while healing about the same damage he takes from minions, especially if he uses a potion
I've beaten a kat top as gangplank...that person swapped lanes with Ekko because I could out poke her and got fed early
kat top is a horrible idea...I think the only champs she can kill there are teemo, vlad, quinn, jinx, and kalista (both of whom are rare picks) unless your opponents don't know what they're doing and you REALLY DO
chogath top will eat kat alive(literally), gnar can outpoke, outtank and outdamage kat
darius will absolutely 100-0 her
kat is not a top lane champ...
