Riot has never, and will never endorse the support meta. It is perfectly viable to have a duo ADC lane, an ADC/Bruiser lane, or any other crazy combination you can think of.

By smacking supports with a nerf bat every time they crawl out of botlane, they're reinforcing the need to keep supports in botlane.

Because it's basically throwing a whole class of champions out of the meta. People call 'support' as a role for a reason, they want to play support champions.

That would be because Nami goes mid> Rito makes it impossible for her to waveclear Sona goes mid> Rito nerfs the CD/Damage on her Q/powerchord so that she can't logically go mid anymore Soraka goes mid/top> Rito nerfs Q, Rito nerfs E, Rito reworks her so she can't reliably heal herself Lulu goes mid/top> Rito nerfs her E damage, Rito nerfs her W, Rito nerfs her Taric becomes a toplane terror> Rito nerfs him hard enough that nobody plays Taric at all anymore.
They're useless because when people try to break the support meta Riot smacks supports with nerfs so hard that they're forced to retreat back botlane.
Riot isn't going to kick them completely out of the game because you don't like playing them and want to play some silly Xin Zhao bot.
