Year in Review: Janna, Soraka weak against Sona?

Forewarning, mild rant incoming

So, I was checking my year in Review. Everything seemed pretty normal, until I got to the suggested champions part. Now, I played a lot of Sona and Lulu support, so it suggested Janna and Soraka. Cool, whatever; poor choices in my opinion because I would never play them, but I can see where they're coming from.

But then it says that Janna and Soraka are both weak against Sona and I'm like WTF? Sona is my favorite champion and the only champion I have mastery level 7 on. And at best, Sona will go even in those lanes. She just doesn't have the raw damage needed to punch through Janna's heals and Soraka's heals. Maybe if you spammed and got q-passive off a lot, but then you'd be oom in like a minute (maybe, not accounting for manaflow band)

Now, maybe I just suck and maybe that mastery level 7 on Sona is ill-begotten. But I say whoever made the champions matchup tables was high as balls. Or a very salty Janna/Soraka main who apparently sucks.

sona can damage through Janna's shield with a q+auto. Sona's q is also much lower cooldown than Janna's shield.

Sona can poke Soraka herself and mitigate poke from her with her w. Sona is also good at short trades while Soraka is good at extended trades. Short trades are easier to take than extended ones.

Janna has always been one of Sona's easier matchups because there's not really much CC to peel from Sona. A good Sona can poke around Janna's shields, making anything Janna does kinda pointless if done right.

As a Soraka main...if I ever declared a main, it is my sole goal of this game to prove Soraka to be superior to Sona. Now if you'll excuse I'm going to go cry in Starcall shredding.

In general, I would say Sona performs in lane better than Janna and Soraka. She has similar sustaining traits of Janna & Soraka but with higher damage output. She's also packed with a most-of-the-time reliable stun and overall a pretty versatile support if the player knows what he/she's doing.

However, that doesn't mean Janna and Soraka are helpless when vs Sona. In terms of peeling and sustaining, I think these 2 do a much better job especially now that Sona mana pool is much more limited. If they know how to utilize this weakness of Sona and survive laning phase without dying or even succeed in killing the other lanes, they win.

Me personally I still think the matchup still favors Sona in comparison to Janna/Soraka. I just love the fact I can switch from aggressive to passive transition or vice versa and still maintaining a smooth playstyle. So i kinda agree with what they're saying.

soraka vs sona is basically sorakas HP bar vs sonas mana bar, Raka has hp pots and self healing via Q.

if no poke comes from the soraka and adc, sona will walk all over them. If they do poke well its gg for sona, she simply lacks the sustain for that kind of lane.

people tend to for get that when sona pokes she has to move in AA range which is well within the adc range to return fire

Probably has to with Sona's weakness of getting jumped on and all-in'd. Soraka and Janna make for less aggressive lanes which is what Sona preferred because she's more of a mid game champ
