Next season ranked rumor

I heard from one of my friends, that wherever you end during season 6, you "usually" drop a tier lower.

ex. Lets say you are in Plat I at the end of season 6, you end up starting in Gold I for season 7

Is that true?? How does this work?

They soft-reset your MMR after the season ends.

It can vary depending on the player's MMR and placement results, but dropping about one tier is a decent approximation.

I ended last season at Platinum 5 with roughly Platinum 2/3 MMR. After going 6-4 in placements, I was dropped into Gold 2 this season.

I ended gold 5 last season, went 7-3 and then got placed silver 4, but my mmr was pretty shitty after losing a ton at gold 5 so it's not that surprising. I have a friend that ended gold 4 or 5 went 5-5 and placed gold 5. So there is a chance you'll be lower but it depends on several things

I don't believe that's true. Where you get placed is (I believe) based on a few factors: Your overall performance in your 10 placement matches. Your MMR. Who you're cheering for in Worlds 2016.

I'm pretty sure I knew a few people who placed higher in the new season than where they ended in the previous season.

Yes it is true. Depending on how well you do in your placements you can end up a tier lower then what you were.

Yes, this is approximate. I finished Gold 5 last season. Went 6-4 in placements and placed in bronze II or Bronze I.

Typically one full tier or more. Placement games do not mean too much unless your MMR is really high or unknown.
