Wrong League?

I do not understand how someone can win nine out of ten games in their provisional and be placed in bronze 1. Is there something wrong with ranking? The account I am talking about has the summoner name RagingSnowLion.

Because they were matched against people they were expected to win against. Looks like they were Silver last season. With the soft MMR reset they should be happy to have that rank. If they deserve Silver they'll get there quickly. I was Plat last season. Went 1-9 in placements and ended up in Silver III. Took me two weeks and was back at Gold III. Your friend will climb if he earns it.

My friend went 1-9 and got bronze 1. Check Mr Yasujii. He's a good player, just had some bad games (5 of which were with a 5-man dynamic queue).

Since they ended last season in Silver 5 though, shouldn't their MMR just have reset to the standard Silver 5 and work up from there? I understand that a fresh level 30 starts off provisional game at the assumption of Silver 5 and five wins and five loses will typically get them Silver 5.

Despite popular believe your MMR has virtually nothing to do with matchmaking except for deciding sides after you have placed. The second part is and why Riot gets so much extra heat every new season is instead of just taking everyone who is say in Silver and throwing them in back to silver 5, or everyone in bronze back down etc. etc. They throw everyone across the board into the same 3-4 tiers for alot of fun.

I played 6 games today. In 2 of my games I had teammates who had never played ranked before prior to that day in any season. (best luck ever) As you can imagine they got destroyed. They didnt have the experience, but instead of Riot putting them in the right place they get thrown in with all these different skill level veterans and destroyed in lane for 10 plus games just from sheer experience alone. Riot doesnt have a real system. They just try to exclude the extremes and they match for queue speeds that is it.

10 games dont decide everything if you were silver/bronze last season you will be again.

What I do not understand is how we can get matched with gold players across the board in 8 of those games and he still gets bronze 1.
