You can have mastery points on a joke mode of ARAM but not on normal ARAM and TT...

AkabaneKun··75 votes·4,370 views

I really don't get riot sometimes, is it so hard to have a key feature in the other modes? Especially now that we have hextech crafting, why don't you want the TT and ARAM community money, do you think it's filthy money or something? Like seriously how hard can it be to implement mastery points and chests on other modes? Then again you removed a 4 year old mode because you couldn't be bothered to waste 0,1% of the money you make per year on it, so i dunno why i still get surprised by this point.

PS:Dynamic queue is also a joke in normal games , 90% premades is a lot of fun, and i don't miss TB at all, keep up the good work.

Let's be honest. ARAM doesn't really show how well you play a champion, thus, a grading scale would be super difficult. ;)

That being said I do not know why you can get champion mastery for the rotating game queue mode. My guess is that it is encouragement for people to use the mode while ARAM is already established and popular.

How does it not?

The mode is entirely composed of teamfights. Do you really think someone who picked up Nidalee for the first time should get an S because she chucked a fuckton of spears?

You're evaluatedon your ability to play in a real game. (Farming, Jungling, Teamfights, etc). ARAM is really just one or two of these factors.

You're confusing "how well you play a champion" with "how well you play a champion on SR." Different maps/modes emphasize different skills. Just because someone knows how to farm, jungle, and teamfight on SR doesn't necessarily mean they know how to do so on TT. It's the reason why MMR is separate for each game mode and why the grading algorithm is adjusted for each game mode.

You are evaluated on your ability to play in a real game. The difference is that this "real game" is ARAM, not SR.

I was talking more about ARAM rather than Twisted Treeline. That, I do agree Champion mastery should apply.

Minarde2 votes

Same concept applies. ARAM's emphasis is teamcomp adaptability and teamfighting. Farming and jungling are minimal/nonexistent, but teamfighting ability is tested much more strictly on ARAM than on SR.

Which is exactly why ARAM does not gain you mastery which is used to measure performance on SR.

Minarde1 votes
  1. Mastery doesn't measure performance at all; it simply tracks time spent playing a champion. Everyone, regardless of MMR, has the same opportunity to raise Mastery level. Someone who plays absolutely terribly every game can have the same Mastery level as someone who completely stomps every game. The only difference is how long it takes to get that Mastery level.
  2. Mastery is available in the rotating game mode queue. The first two modes in the rotating queue were Ascension and Poro King, neither of which are on SR. As such, it's a little strange to claim that Mastery measures performance on SR.
  3. Riot's already expressed interest in adding Champ Mastery to Treeline and ARAM. The delay is because work on the rotating queue was deemed higher priority.

Cumulative scores perhaps.

Mastery grade depends on your performance in a particular role. 100 mediocre games earn you 100 B, not A or S. If you spend 1001 hours grinding, you'll get Lvl 5, but not S or A unless you get better at the role.

Mastery WAS intended for SR. They later make alternative modes eligible for mastery as well, the intention remained unclear. They may or maynot make it available on ARAM, don't hold your breath.

Minarde1 votes

Considering the system doesn't currently display your post-game grades at all besides the highest achieved, there is no functional difference between 100 B's or 100 S's. Different amounts of Mastery xp awarded, but that can be evened out just by grinding more games.

That's just because everything is originally intended for SR. Even on the Mastery feature/explanation page, there's a mention of currently limiting Mastery to SR. Especially with enabling Mastery for the rotating mode queue, Riot's intention is fairly obvious. Mastery is meant to be a League feature, not an SR feature.

I do agree that Mastery on ARAM may not be enabled for a long time. Not because it doesn't fit on ARAM though, but because Riot has a history of delaying porting features to Alternate Maps. It took, what, months/years for brush sway and minion projectile updates to reach the Crystal Scar? Minion skins didn't hit Twisted Treeline until Draven Day earlier this month.

The difference is that you don't get your chest, and the satisfaction that you are doing better than most people.

It's true that it's nowhere near the same as in real games because it values teamfights heavily and devalues positioning because it's almost never possible to flank, not to mention CSing because the wave is shared by everyone, but it's too harsh to say that you can't learn a champion at all.

But yeah, I have no idea why they turned it on for a joke mode and not ARAM.

I have to disagree, it just values different things than SR. In ARAM you have to have a solid understanding of way more champs, you have to keep track of a huge number of skillshots at all times, and you have to gauge when and where you need to die and buy.

All very true statements, but there are definitely skills that are more important on SR than ARAM and the other way around.

I doubt you dodge half as many skillshots in the average game on SR, for example. I know my dodging has improved hugely by playing it so much.

I'm fairly certain mastery is based on KDA/CS anyways. I have no respect for the system.

Hethalean1 votes

It's definitely a ton more than just KDA and CS.

If you want to learn a champion, playing Aram is the best thing u can do. LOL. Especially poro king is nice bc u can just spam your champ every game.

Riot said that ARAM and TT are in queue for Mastery feature. Need to give Riot time to work through everything else they said they were working on first and/or the triage adjustment of their priorities.

TLDR: Chill man, it's coming.

How is it harder to add mastery for already implemented, permanent modes, compared to modes on the same map with a few gimmicks?

Dan Abnormal1 votes

the point system is probably gonna be balanced around these mods, while for the fun mods they've clearly just slaped SR's mastery system on them

Mysticman891 votes

They've kinda explicitly said that they balanced the mastery point rewards around those modes though rather than just using SR's system.

RocketRelm1 votes

I think for the 'gimmicky modes' they've made a haphazard system slapped together with spare scrap from rumble's garage. For a 'consistent game mode' they probably want it to be coherent and to matter, because if there's a mistake they can't just go 'eh fck it it's gone in 2 days'.

hhaavviikk1 votes

isn't it already in place though but just not activated?

in some ARAM games the client says that because I do not own the champion I won't get a chest obviously implying I got a S there and should've gotten a chest and yet we all know you NEVER get chests in ARAM so that would mean all riot has to do is just activate the feature in ARAM not even implement it.

TallyZrg1 votes

I wasn't even aware of that. I wonder what they are waiting on then. hmm...

They already said they are adjusting the grading algorithm for these modes though...

And knowing Riot.... You believe them on there word!! [zombie-nunu-bummed]

Yeah, Riot hasn't exactly been trustworthy this year.

Especially now that we have hextech crafting, why don't you want the TT and ARAM community money, do you think it's filthy money or something?

Considering per-win IP boosts have blatantly favored SR over any of the other game modes for years, this sentiment wouldn't be too surprising.

Aram is completely random and is a completely different gamemode with a completely different map?

Also keys do drop from Arams or at least I saw they were adding it?

You can't judge skill based off aram and therefore you will not get a rank.

I SUCK at Katerina in normals. I can't play her in summoner's rift. I'm great at her in aram, because shes a good champ in Aram. I always get fed and that would never happen in a summoner's rift. It is a very poor example of my skill, because the only reason I'm good with her on that map is because she's good on that map, and since all players are stuck in a 1 lan map, it's incredibly easy to just get assists to add onto your passive at only lvl 3.

On that map, some champions are better than others. You could be a god at Renekton in Summoner's rift and then completely suck at him on aram because of the map and because of the randomness of the teams. Nobody has control over who they play, and you cant judge skill based off of how you play in a map that makes both teams random and works better for some champions than others.

Adding mastery to aram is not a priority and if they are adding it they'll probably adjust it. You can't judge a person's skill at a champ when its on a map that makes who you play random and favors certain champs more than others.

If you're not here to buy jerseys and root for your favorite pack of computer nerds professional sports team, you're not going to be accommodated by rito.

I keep logging into League because I feel like I want to play. Then I remember how poorly Riot has handled the game lately. I play 2-3 games per month now. Almost over my addiction.

Adding mastery points to aram would go far to bringing me back.

This is the issue I lost rank gold 5 and went to silver 1 no warning what so ever plus being matched with lower ellows. I got back to gold 5 again matched with mostly silver bronze carrying. I literally got to up to gold five promos and had a bad streak it seems you never win 4 plus games my experience. I lost a lot but still mostly bronze and silver players feeding. Then out of no where I get demoted to silver like nothing after just getting to gold 5 after losing couple of games at 0. I feel like I'm being set for failure not perfect but but dam getting stuck with lanes feeding what can I do but be positive. When it comes down to it I literally got demoted from gold 5 right after getting in it minus the horrible match making getting stuck with.
