So...

Does IP price have anything to do with their champion viability? ( I.E. : Ashe VS Jinx, even though I am saving for Jinx anyway because that cinematic o.O) (Also, Heimerdinger and Zyra...that confuses me how they have near identical Q/W/E/R but Heim has it way better....) How big a difference do runes make? Why do I see people who play pure damage have 21/0/9 or 21/9/0? (I see a total of about 17 points I would want to put into the damage tree for my damage characters) And fun stuff like that. Oh, big one for me! How do I identify what champions hard counter others? (Like Yasuo dominates projectile based Champions(Ahri was my main until I lost 5/6 times vs Yasuo) which hurts a bit) More questions needed. Cuz I am a terrible player who is lvl 15.

There is a lot going on here haha. Perhaps you could re-title your post to better align it with the subject -- just food for thought for next time!

In regards to your questions, I can try to help with that last one.

There are sites like LoLCounter, ProBuilds, LoLPro...all sorts of cool stuff to help you find what may work well in a composition. There are tons of other examples that I'm not thinking of, but I recommend starting there as a guide.

Additionally, there is a really great subreddit called Summoner School that addresses questions like yours all the time! Not saying that you don't have to post here, but that board is entirely dedicated to on-boarding.

I hope this helps!

In a convoluted way, yes. Very difficult champions tend to have better rewards for being played well to make up for how awful they are when misused. Champs that are very easy to use, by contrast, tend to be mediocre regardless of the player (after all, a champ that could consistently carry regardless of their player's skill would be pretty awful for the game). So, because easier champions tend to be cheaper and more difficult champions tend to be more expensive, the correlation exists.

Why do I see people who play pure damage have 21/0/9 or 21/9/0? (I see a total of about 17 points I would want to put into the damage tree for my damage characters)

You have to invest 21 points in a tree to get its 'capstone,' which are some of the highest impact single points you can invest. 3% increased damage across the board, 15% tenacity or mini-mobility boots for just one point is pretty insane. There are a few champions that can get away with stuff like 0/14/16 (most of them supports), the vast majority of champions are best going 21 in one tree and 9 in another.

Obligatory - every matchup is winnable with jungle intervention. Theoretically.

Practically, a lot of this stuff is situational. Some champions have very polarized matchups - Teemo dominates melee auto attackers, Kayle beats ult-reliant assassins, etcetera. For a lot of champs, however, it's dependent on your teammates and the skill of you and your opponent. Thresh is a counterpick to Zyra if you have an ADC with significant burst damage, for instance, but he's not actually gonna do that much if your ADC is Ashe or somesuch. Elise into Amumu is a good matchup if you have the stronger laners, but it's not really that great if your lanes are permanently pushed in. Anything into Lee Sin is an excellent matchup if you're playing against someone in Bronze. And so forth.

Well that helps. =) So theoretically if I run 17/0/13 for a little bit more potion power and gold per sec while having high magic/ranged damage (don't need the capstone as much if I can grab items quicker) but not the highest by 3/5%, would that work?

Not really worth it. I'm just going to compare Devastating Strikes and Greed, since that's the example you bring up -

If we want to assume that Void Staff and Last Whisper are gold efficient, we can get a value for percentile armor and magic pen of around 35 gold per point. This gives three points in the mastery an effective gold value of ~420.

Greed, meanwhile, is giving you an effective gold value of 1.5 every ten seconds. So, if we want to compare the "gold" that each mastery is giving you, it's gonna take nearly 47 minutes for Greed to break even with Devastating Strikes. Most games don't even last that long, and even if you get to that point, you have to account for the fact that you've been weaker the whole time - if you've lost a trade or done too little damage in a teamfight because you were greedy with your masteries, then you're basically losing gold.

In general, GP/10 is a trap that I think a lot of newer players fall for. If your goal is to get as much money as possible, you want the stats that will let you kill people faster, farm more quickly and win team fights. A mastery that basically gives you one CS every 2-3 minutes isn't worth taking over a mastery that could let you stay in lane to farm a whole wave.

If you're ever not sure what masteries to run, some combination of 9, 21 and 0 is going to be the best option well over 90% of the time.

Alright then. Thanks. =)

Just a note about runes- They make a HUGE difference, but don't buy them until you're level 20. Pre-level 20, you can only buy tier 2 runes, which will drain your IP and are much worse than the tier 3 ones.

EvilRabbitt1 votes

Well, that's probably why I was confused about them- I'm lvl 16 and was buying T2 runes for AP (scale with level, not flat value). So I should stop XD. How exactly does the rune combiner work? Can I combine some T1 runes to get T2 and T2 to get T3?

Crazycatperson1 votes

You could use the rune combiner, but it's vastly less efficient than just waiting until you're level 20 and buying the runes.

Ip price is based off of how old the champion is. That's all. Nothing more or less. Older champions are less expensive.

Also worrying about counters at your skill level is probably not a good focus. Counters only go so far. Some people counter people only if one ability is used correctly at the right time. It's not relevant yet man. It becomes relevant when both players are of an equivalent skill level and have sturdy knowledge of their champions potential and mechanics. I'm not trying to sound like a jerk but you need to be focusing on learning to farm, Learning the ropes of the jungle, what is ganking, how do I respond to it. How do I solo lane. How does bottom lane work, what are wards and where do I put them.

Will do. Thanks. =)
