Rod of Ages Change

As of currently, Rod of Ages's passive is useless at level 18. This rework aims to solve that. item 3010 + item 1058 + 550 gold = item 3027 (3000 Gold Total)

Rod of Ages +300 Health +400 Mana +80 Ability Power Unique Passive: Valor's Reward: On leveling up, restores 150 health and 200 mana over 8 seconds. Passive: This item gains 20 health, 40 mana, and 3 AP every minute, up to 10 times. At max stacks and if the champion is level 18, this item turns into Timeless Scepter.

The new Rod of Ages is designed to have Needlessly Large Rod into its build path, and thus cost 3000 gold as with the other Needlessly Large Rod items. However, I believe that it should cost 3200 gold, but for clarity's sake let's just keep it as 3000 gold. This new Rod of Ages is designed for tanky mages that scale. I also thought that it would be nice if Rod of Ages, similarly to Archangel Staff, evolved to a new item upon reaching a milestone. Praise the ROA/Archangel Scaling Sisters!

Timeless Scepter I actually have three ideas of how Timeless Scepter should be. For reference, let's just call them A, B, and C. (Also, the reason why all the Timeless Scepter are related to CDR is because Rod of Ages absorbs time to grow more powerful. Shouldn't it have a store of time somewhere in there?

A +500 Health +800 Mana +110 Ability Power +20% CDR

Timeless Scepter A is the most simplest of all the other designs I have. This complements the people who would build Rod of Ages to begin with, or the tanky bruiser mages. Having CDR enforces this, allowing them to spam their abilities more.

B +500 Health +800 Mana +110 Ability Power Unique Passive: Upon casting a spell, reduce the current cooldowns of your other basic abilities by 10%.

Timeless Scepter B, similar to A, is designed towards tanky bruiser mages in that they reduce the cooldowns, allowing for them to spam their abilities more. This comes in the form of a Ryze like passive. I have a feeling, however, that 10% is a little too much; how does 8% sound?

C +500 Health +800 Mana +110 Ability Power Unique Active: Instantly reset the cooldowns on all of your basic abilities. Has a 240 second cooldown.

Timeless Scepter C, unlike the other two scepters, is directed towards bursty mages. By being able to reset the cooldowns of their basic abilities, they essentially become able to burst two champions instead of one. I don't think that this is unbalanced due to the 240 second cooldown which can easily be increased to a 300 second cooldown, similar to Flash's cooldown. To be honest, I believe that this should be a Summoner Spell and not something tacked onto an item.

Tl;dr buff Rod of Ages to 3000 gold, make it have more AP, make it change into a new item at max stacks and level 18 The items are being debated, between A (Plain regular CDR) B (Ryze Passive) and C (Instant reset your basic abilities CDR)

I got another passive. For every second that's passed in-game, your spells gain 0.1 magic damage(maximum of 30-250 depending on level)

Does Rod of Ages really need a change because of Valor's Reward? No it doesn't. Max stacks, it's already one of the most gold efficient items, even without the sustain.

For starters, it's already gold efficient when bought, and more so when fully stacked:

  • 300 health = 800g; 500 health = 1333g full stacks
  • 400 mana = 800g; 800 mana = 1600g full stacks
  • 60 AP = 1305g; 100 AP = 2175g full stacks Resulting in 2905g worth of stats for 2700g (107.59% efficient), 5108g worth of stats at full stacks (189.18% efficiency, which is extremely good, which is why it's delayed.)

It's not really hurting for AP or utility either, 100 AP in addition to the other stats is already very solid at full stacks. And early game, the stats and cost are pretty fair: Health, mana, sustain when leveling, and 60 AP in exchange for getting less AP than most other AP items (most have 80 or 100 ap), CD, or other utility early on. It's actually one of the healthier items in the game right now, it honestly does not need any changes.

TL;DR Rod of Ages doesn't need any changes due to it's sustain passive becoming useless at 18. It's already very gold efficient.
