is it me, or the people always pick the same summoner spells since s5?

In every single game the ADC picks flash and heal, the jungler picks flash and smite, the support picks almost 99% of the times flash and exhaust, (1% of the times the support picks flash and ignite) the midlaners pick ignite and flash (even though sometimes they pick ghost or barrier instead of ignite) and the toplaner picks flash and teleport. The only exceptions are olaf, hecarim and sometimes even master yi. They pick ghost over flash. My point is, why are there so few options? A mana cost mage should have clarity to solve the mana problems, the supports should have clairvoyance to help their team, providing vision, etc. Can Riot do something about that? The current summoner spell meta sucks...

I see Flash/Ghost, Flash/Barrier, Flash/Ignite, Flash/Exhaust and Flash/Teleport mid. Flash/Ghost is insanely popular right now since people have realised that a lot of mages deal so much damage with keystones that they don't need Ignite to secure a kill.

I mostly see mages taking Ghost or Barrier as their second spell, while it's mostly just assassins taking Ignite now.

Ignite has become more popular in top lane since the teleport channel time time was increased. Nasus and Singed also take Ghost instead of Flash in most cases.

Some junglers take Ignite or Exhaust instead of Flash (generally, assassin junglers or ones who are bad duelists.)

I see supports taking Ignite fairly often, maybe a third of the time or so?

All that said, there isn't that much variation. It would be nice if there were more actual strategic choices rather than the best choice of spell being a "solved problem" for nearly all champions/positions.

A mana cost mage should have clarity to solve the mana problems,

No, there was never a good reason to take Clarity. It was a crux for people who couldn't manage their mana even with the wealth of mana options in the game.

A mana cost mage should have clarity to solve the mana problems, the supports should have clairvoyance to help their team, providing vision, etc.

These two spells were so bad and so rare that you didn't even realise that they're not even available on Summoners Rift anymore.

One time I felt spicy and took Cleanse against a Veigar.

Midlane is by far the role with most viable summoner spells. I use flash/ghost, flash/ignite, flash/exhaust, flash/barrier flash/cleanse depending on the matchup. I used to use clairvoyance on kayle mid back in season 3 - 5 but they took it away.

Is it bad that I usually take ignite and flash top for the extra kill pressure in lane so I can snowball easier?

NightmareAmazoX1/15/2017, 4:50:25 PM1 votes

summoner 6 summoner 21 have been used a lot since season 6, summoner 1 as well & summoner 12 summoner 4 & Ignite on support only 1%? Supports like Thresh take it a lot, You want ignite on support if they have someone who benefits from anything related to heal.

Sometimes, allies may think I am trolling if I pick unpopular alternatives, such as cleanse. I used to run Flash/Ghost in earlier seasons. There would often be someone pointing out "No ignite?"

Quepha1/15/2017, 7:06:24 PM1 votes

there's been way more variety in summoners in the last few seasons... before s4/s5 it was flash/exhaust for supports, flash/smite for jungler, and flash/ignite for EVERYONE else.

Since season 5? I remember the end of season 4 where flash, TP, ignite, heal, and very rarely cleanse were the only real options.

Darius takes summoner 6 summoner 4 but he's getting nerfed so..

Chaos6891/15/2017, 12:28:28 PM1 votes

They want to force a choice between two different strengths, but the other spells are just so weak that nobody picks them.

Zen Ineth1/15/2017, 12:29:02 PM1 votes

It's that other spells are relatively extraneous after a certain point in the game, whereas mobility and damage reduction are difficult to come by. Ignite prevents Mundo or Vlad from running rampant in a fight, exhaust stops the ADC from being a relevant threat, and Flash will always be used to a great deal of success, since no other summoner spell or item in the game allows you to reposition yourself over walls instantaneously.

After you get a Morellonomicon, clarity ceases to have worthy function. Cleanse can be found on QSS, and isn't really taken unless you're an ADC facing a CC heavy comp.

Because it works. Those are the best options we have with the current summoner spells, to fix this we need new ones but because summoners don't exist anymore those aren't really legit lol.

The Adc takes heal so they can kite and survive damage easier, why wouldnt the ADC take ignite? Well cause its risky business especially with the damage output currently. Although it does shit with oneshots and all. Lol The support takes exhaust instead of heal cause when the supports not around the ADC in early game has little life steal and no heal which results in unanswered damage early game especially in a 2v1 situation and possible kills handed over
Mid is self explanatory. Its in the middle of the map why would you tp a short distance? Start walking damn it lol Top has tp for pressure especially for bot lane and since top lane is usually the bruiser lane they farm more which means they are rarely seen outside of lane before 10 min, ever and the jungler is fine with whatever he takes. Ignite smite maybe? Most junglers have gap closers anyway so big whoop vi Lee sej heca yi etc In short. Because it works and it works the best

Um, you do realize Clarity & Clairvoyance are no longer available for Summoner's Rift right? Riot removed them as a Rift option over a year ago. So of course people can't take those spells.

Also, they suck in comparison to other summoner spells.
