Zyra or Runes?

Hi, I'm PrinceOfFun, and I have a question. I'm not really sure if I'm posting this in the right board, but whatever. So, I got to level 30, like, 2 days ago, and I was wondering if I should invest in runes now. I know they help a lot, but I'll explain my dilemma. So, I main supports, both squishy and tanky, so if I were to get some tier 3 runes, which are by far the best, but most expensive, it would cost me upward of 6300 IP to complete just one rune page. And because I like playing squishy and tanky supports, I really need two different rune pages to maximize the effectiveness on most of the supports that I like to play; I figure that would cost me anywhere close to 13000 IP, a very large amount for me. Right now I also really want ZyraZyra , though, so I was wondering if I should start saving up for the costly runes, as they would no doubt help me a lot in ranked, or should I get ZyraZyra ? Remember, I'm about to go into ranked, and I only currently have 3100 IP. A speedy and detailed answer would be greatly appreciated.

I'd say go for the runes tbh they help more then you think. If you have a variety of sups already its worth getting runes

Runes, definitely runes. The runes for the basic two pages were price discounted as well http://na.leagueoflegends.com/en/news/store/sales/starter-t3-runes-permanent-discount-2-weeks so it won't take you that much ip to get your two basic pages.

In addition, there are some people who check if you have proper runes/masteries on the opposing teams using third party sites and subsequently camp that enemy's lane. It's sad but they do use that tactic and you should avoid falling prey to it.

Zyra is also getting reworked in the Mid Year Mage Update so she will be changing quite a bit in the coming months.
You might want to wait until then to decide to buy her.

I would recommend that you don't start ranked without having at least one full rune page ready. The difference between a complete page and a bad set is very noticeable, and it's a huge advantage that you're giving up by not having a good page ready. I would also recommend that you at least buy all the starter runes so that you have a damage page available because there's no way to guarantee that you're going to get support in every game. I would probably go with a mid page because some of your champion pool flexes into mid rather easily.

As far as Zyra goes, I would definitely hold off until we see her rework come through. She's not in a very good place atm and you may not like what she becomes after her rework. As long as you've got a couple strong support options (you can throw Thresh/Janna/Alistar into just about any comp), I would definitely focus on that rune set first.

Get Runes, no question about it. You will get rekt big time without them and going into a ranked game without runes basically puts your team at a HUGE disadvantage from the beginning.

regarding the runes, if you main sup, there are some standard builds out there that you can use on any champ which will allow you to get pretty far until you need to buy more.

And agreeing with people who posted above, Zyra is getting reworked so wait for that to happen first.

I saw your other post between her and tahm, so I can tell you this clear as day:

Get the runes.

I hate playing with someone who doesn't have a rune page set up or masteries. Do a LOT of research first and make sure you get it right for what you need to do. I've wasted literally days of gameplay worth of IP on BS runes I thought would be manageable. At the end of the day, wasting IP on bas runes is almost as bad as having no runes.

I almost always buy champs on sale. I watch for the Monthly Sales charts and see what's gonna be on sale, I log in daily anyways to chill and play so I always check for the latest updates until I see the ones I know I want. IP is better spent on the runes you need to win more games and get more IP for everything else.

Defintely get runes. Don't get me wrong, Zyra is awesome, but runes will help you on EVERY champ, and they are necessary for ranked play. You will be at an enormous disadvantage playing ranked against people with runes if you don't have a full proper rune page.

Heads up, Zyra isn't being REWORKED. She's being updated. The majority of her kit and feel with stay the same minus her passive which will hopefully be scrapped.

Buy runes before you buy the champs for sure.

If you are wanting some good Zyra runes:

Solo Lane:

  • AP quints
  • CDR/lvl glyphs
  • Health or Health/lvl seals (flat better early while scaling is better late)
  • Mpen marks

(Just a general base for runes. These also work great for many other champions)

Support:

  • AP quints
  • MR glyphs
  • Armor seals
  • Mpen marks

(Just another base to get you started)

I found it was easier to have base rune pages that work well for multiple champs than to have spent a ton of IP on niche runes so early on.
