Appreciation thread for the Poppy Rework
I just want to say, thank you riot for reworking poppy into this extremely fun champion. I've been pumping a ton of games ever since I started playing her rework (which I'm not going to lie, it took me a while until I actually started playing her. I'm pretty sure a friend requested me to play her since he thought I would have fun with her). She feels extremely rewarding when you hit a stun on a wall and there are so many neat small tricks you can do on her like angling your stun in a way the enemy doesn't expect or pressing q then flashing for a more surprising way to get a kill (instead of the regular flash then q). I honestly don't know why not many people play her but I think she's one of the better tanks designed since it feels like what you do as a player has a good impact while being decently skillful to use.
I've been having a ton of fun with poppy's w and e. Her q is a nice change to help her in the top lane and jungle but making her kit design based on what felt unique to her which was her e makes her feel really nice to play. I didn't really play prerework poppy as I honestly sucked at it but from what I could see when I played it or vs it, it was that you could run down the opponent when you were ahead or at late game. She didn't have that much counterplay. You can still do that when ahead but you generally need to hit a stun for it to work. Since you need to hit her stun, she feels very rewarding and honestly healthy (some people can be like wtf why you 3 shot or close to that but tbh she needs to do high damage for this kind of ability to be rewarded well which I am totally fine with. Tbh people just sometimes cry about the damage I do because I build
and
, which is usually 1 of those items unless I need to hard carry my team).
Her w which is, for the most part, outside of her bonus resistances, a new ability which I feel fits the idea of outplaying your opponent through either movements with move speed or prediction. I love using this ability to predict vayne tumbles mid way and yasuo dashes and it makes me feel extremely good about doing it. I love how much this makes poppy mains have something extra to work on improving while also being a very straight forward skill that new poppy players can use easily.
Her ultimate is probably the most debated ability but it is definitely an improve of the last ultimate. I personally like the ultimate in how it can help make those sweet escapes and turn fights into 5v4s. It is also an amazing ability to steal barons especially if you are the jungler (I can't count how many barons I stole by ulting the jungler and smiting the baron).
I feel like her build diversity is also pretty good. Instead of the regular tanks that can only really build full tank to win a game, I've been having success on building poppy as a tanky bruiser. This build is basically only 1 item, rarely 2. However, this alternative playstyle feels more satisfying to me than building full tank. If I want to build 1 ap item on maokai, I will usually only be able to build a
. This build diversity is the same reason why I play amumu. He can also build a few ap items and tank. Amumu might have a little more build diversity but I feel like poppy still has enough for me to be able to get by in high elo by building damage items which is how I like to play poppy. If I want to have fun in normal or in lower elo, then I can go full ad lethality with 2 crit items and dark harvest. This doesn't work in high elo due to how punishing this is (and tbh, bruiser is like assassin poppy but tankier, only reason you don't see 2 dmg item poppy is that you sacrifice a lot and you want to build safer). This assassin poppy is still very fun and I sometimes play it when I don't feel like playing solo que for a day or a night.
I just want to thank everyone who worked on this rework to make me able to play this cute yordle that I have been probably playing for over 1k games by now. I have been spamming my friendlist sometimes to get everyone to play her lol. I will probably continue to play poppy and maybe 1 trick her in my road to master/challenger :).
