Am I the Only One Who Thinks That Azir Needs Buffs?

Tattersall··37 votes·2,910 views

I'm no expert on the game or anything, I just think that Azir is too weak right now. I don't know, I guess we'll find out whether or not he's still op when Worlds comes around.

Btw, if you think that Azir is in a relatively good place right now, please give me some tips. Thanks.

EDIT: If you're going to say that Azir is strong right now, please give me some tips on how to get better at him outside of

Geez, guys.

You are definitely not the only one, but any logically minded person doesn't want azir buffs until some big changes to his kit are made

Vistha Kai6 votes

Or you know... his early game finally nerfed.

I couldn't care less for his mid-late game, dashes, ults, knock-ups or tower smites, if he wasn't able to half my health bar with a not-that-hard-to-hit level 2 combo.

Astôlfo4 votes

His early game was already nerfed over and over. And for a half-health level 2 combo, why not look at things like LB's Q-W? Or Anivia point-blank Q-E? Why is Azir's different?

nice table4 votes

cause anivia has to be "point blank" to actually hit her Q and LB cant do her combo across the map with 0 risk and also LB has 0 late game scaling.

Thank you

Also for a decent early game, he should, by fairness, (and most early game champs) not have such a monstrous late game

I have thought of morphing him, to become an appropriate APC.

Vistha Kai4 votes

Please tell me about those nerfs to his early game.

Oh, I found one:

Conquering Sands: Damage reduced to 65 / 85 / 105 / 125 / 145 from 75 / 105 / 135 / 165 / 195.

Wait, something's off...

(About 5 patches before the previously mentioned change) Conquering Sands: Damage increased to 75 / 105 / 135 / 165 / 195 from 60 / 90 / 120 / 150 / 180.

Oh, so he actually gained damage early!

Divewing4 votes

Relax. You are completely right. For whatever reason Riot is refusing to nerf his Q, even though it would hit his early harass, poke, and burst all in one. Much better to jump through hurdles nerfing the rest of his kit and making him into an "either garbage or broken" champ than trim off some early game damage on an ability that really has no thematic or gameplay reason TO deal damage.

Vistha Kai4 votes

I know I'm completely right. I've seen what happened to Kassadin.

I wish I could find that comment somebody made some time ago on how Riot treated Kassadin. It was something like:

Guys, Kassadin is instagibbing people. Let's remove his silence. But, guys, Kassadin is still instagibbing people. Let's move damage from his Q to his W. Ekhem, Kassadin is still instagibbing people. Let's lower his ult's range. Guys, pls...

TNHA Baritone2 votes

Just played against one today in ranked and he did exactly what you just said.

Vistha Kai1 votes

You know what I mean then.

Even if he loses later or you end up overpowering him in lane anyway, it's still so stupid for something like that to be allowed. And instead of fixing problems like that they... removed a knock-up on his dash that nearly nobody used, because that'd hurt his power level. Too bad nerfs like that only hurt when you overdo them and then the champion drops to 40% winrate garbage tier instantly.

TNHA Baritone1 votes

Yup. If they fix that stupid burst combo. It would free him up to have things that would help him.

I think it's the same with Cassiopeia, her level 2 burst really is annoying and the fact that she gets movement speed makes it worse & it doesn't stop. It just keeps going and going until she runs out of mana and then she gets Tear...but that's another conversation.

Vistha Kai1 votes

Cassiopeia is worse than Azir in this respect, since her mana costs are more forgiving and she can actually outright kill you at level 2.

One of the reasons lowering the cooldown on her E was a bad thing. It makes playing her fool-proof as missing Q doesn't actively punish you like it used to.

Still her danger zone is actually much smaller than Azir's, so you can at least CC her and retaliate.

TNHA Baritone1 votes

Yeah and she has to get near you.

This guy gets it.

Xonra1 votes

Pretty much my feelings on Azir.

From an objective standpoint, he needs buffs.

From someone who has to lane against that jackass when he gets buffed. HEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeell no don't buff him.

chubs122410 votes

The reason he is so weak right now is because he had something like a 70% pick ban rate in the LCS for some time. People where getting irritated with azir mid every single game so riot nerfed him to the ground in order to get his play rate to something around 30%. His kit allowed him to do to many things by himself he was a hyper carry that could peel for himself with extreme mobility allowing him to essentially solo carry games with the only limitation being skill. In the LCS that was a big problem.

Erractic Eick2 votes

It's a shame, though. I always thought he was such a cool champion, and because of that I never cared how much he was played. But I also recognize that not everyone feels that way, it was making LCS impossible to be balanced, so... I don't know. I'm conflicted about his state right now.

I used to want to buy Azir, and learn him, and become really good with him, but now I just wonder if that would contribute more to the problem.

Gear Jammer6 votes

He needs buffs for low elo and is fine in high elo.... atleast thats what ive read here on boards... but idk shit

Astôlfo4 votes

He needs a rework first, but he needs a buff in both basically. The only people who actually do well on him are all people with extremely high amounts of experience on him obviously. Except even then, most people are still bad at him until the Master/Challenger level. Practically over 99.8% of the playerbase can virtually view Azir as worthless.

Lady Hammerlock6 votes

Currently riot is holding off on any Azir changes until pre season

Blue Moon Wolf4 votes

Well, he is currently fighting for lowest average win rate with Ryze atm, so that says quite a bit. Riot even mentioned they are not happy with his current state and will be working on him at some point. They don't know how much they are going to change (kit change, base stat change or adding mechanics), but they definitely want to shrink the gap between people who are new to Azir and people who have mastered him.

With my experiance with him, I would say item 3115 is pretty good for him, but I don't use him enough anymore to say more than that.

Astôlfo3 votes

Some Azir players are apparently supposedly going Morello's now instead of Nashor's due to how heavy his manacosts in early are.

Poske2 votes

Nope nothing to do with mana costs

Xonra1 votes

And we will likely see another Ryze rework before they properly buff Azir (I'm not sure that isn't close to the truth at this point :s).

Prison AnaI4 votes

He needs buffs but nobody wants him buffed because when azir is strong, hes CANCER

IPromiseTomorrow3 votes

I mean a buff would be nice.

He isn't doing too hot in high elo either. There were statistics showing his winrate is lower the higher the ELO gets.

Kuiper Cliff2 votes

In my experience he has the ability to deliver a METRIC TON of damage, but since they nerfed his wall especially it has become a lot harder to just hang out and deal that damage like some kind of insane and luxurious god-bird-emperor. I find that I simply have to eith fight 1v1s or wait until I have the full force of my team to keep me seperate from the enemy in order to deliver that damage reliably.

I know reading up on Aqua Dragon's guide on Marksman azir really helped my to shift my play style away from R centric midlane azir play that got gutted this season. I hope that helps :)

JosephAngelo2 votes

I used to be a one trick Azir player but now I hardly play him. He can still be played but you need to farm almost perfectly or you are going to fall really far behind. His latest nerf that sent him back into his sandy grave was his base damage on his w reduced tremendously in the mid game but still scales well past level 11 up to an unaltered amount at level 18. So his very early and very late game are still really good but anywhere from level 4 to level 11 is REALLY bad.

I stopped playing him for the most part because I asked myself "why would I play a champion that is so easy to fall behind with when I could play someone else who can perform very effectively even when behind?"

If you were to play him now, farm outrageously well. By this, I mean shoot for 100 cs for every 10 minutes. It is hard but It can be done. Also, know your power spikes. When you finish nashor's tooth, you get a big spike in power. GLHF

Tattersall1 votes

Thanks for the input. THIS is the kind of stuff I want to see here.
See, MY problem is that when I farm well, I just end up pushing the lane, leading to an easy enemy gank. And then the feeding starts.

JosephAngelo2 votes

Farming well doesn't mean pushing. you can do onw without the other. There are things you can do to be productive no matter where the minion wave is.

If you notice the wave is pushed near the enemy tower and the enemy is freezeing:

Note: freezeing is when a player purposefully positions lane minions to meet at a specific location, most commonly close to their tower but not within range of their tower. freezeing is done to zone enemies off of the minion wave in fear of all in by enemy laning opponent or jungle gank which allow the player who set up the freeze to farm relatively safely.

  1. clear the enemy wave as fast as possible to cause your ally minion wave to push under the enemy tower. This will cause the tower to kill all of your ally minions and the enemies minions, if left alone, will begin to slowly push toward your tower. This technique is called pushing or breaking a freeze. When the minion wave inevitably pushes towards your side of the lane, you may try to freeze.

  2. The fact that your enemy is making the minion wave not move means you can actually leave seemingly without consequence. essentially, if your enemy is freeze the minion wave, they may be denying you farm but they are giving you time. use this time to back and spend your gold and regen AND/OR use this time to roam to another lane or the jungle to give your team or yourself and advantage. If the enemy sees you leave they may begin to push the wave in order to get their minion wave under the tower to do damage to the tower and deny you their minons for farm so if you leave and do something else make sure you get back to lane before they push it under your tower. You could also walk out of vision, pretending that you are leaving to roam, to entice your enemy to begin to push the minion wave, thinking you have left, which will effectively trick your enemy into breaking the freeze for you.

He needs to have more defined strengths and weaknesses to become a balanced mage, otherwise he'll have to remain a shitty jack of all trades because his kit is far too overloaded to be balanceable.

HazyCloud72 votes

He needs buffs, but not outright number buffs. He needs changes made to his kit. For starters, heavily lower his Q damage and increase his W scaling or base damage.

Just Blame Jenny1 votes

Azir is OP right now tbh. The only reason his winrate is so low is that he has a really toxic playerbase that usually trolls and lets enemies kill him. But a good Azir can practically 1v5 come mid game.

GULAG 4 U3 votes

Trashzir is op? Nice joke there

Just Blame Jenny1 votes

Sarcasm is well and truly a lost art on the internet.

DaSarcasticGuy1 votes

I resent that comment!!! Also apparently faker destroyed tsm with azir in their scrims. We don't see the end of the game, but bjergson comments in another one of his videos about only faker can win with azir. For reference the game cuts out right when it looks like skt is making a come back on the back of faker's azir play.

Duke Anax1 votes

Azir is actually quite strong right now, IF you are able to play him properly. If he got buffs, good Azir players would be too strong with him.

What he needs is some sort of neutral adjustment, so that newer Azir players aren't so far behind.

Poske1 votes

He is in good spot for skilled players

Become a skilled azir player..

Astôlfo4 votes

How incredibly helpful advice.

Considering the only "skilled players" that do well on him are almost entirely all Master/Challenger players with hundreds of games.

Poske1 votes

dont forget diamond players

Dude how can I give you tips?

I mean post a video and I ll tell you everything you do wrong..

For starters use Attackspeed Quints , Max Q buy Nomicon rabadon / rylai

Astôlfo1 votes

Except there are very few Diamond players actually good at Azir?

And I'm not using myself as a reference. I'm bad at the game in general.

Zetto1 votes

Technically he needs a rework, so that he can be buffed. He's got old-poppy/old-yorick syndrome

Lugg1 votes

Azir is a champ that is really hard to balance. Right now is about where he should be since mains can still win with him. If you buff him at all, he ends up pick/ban.

OokamiNoSora1 votes

Whose Azir..is this him ->Kassadin

Tattersall2 votes

I think Kassadin needs buffs too. No one freak out about that, if I wanted to discuss Kassadin I'd have made a Kassadin post. Maybe I WILL make a Kassadin post. You never know.

Hahahahyena1 votes

i remember somewhere that riot was planning to buff him but he will need to recieve a rework to either his shurima shuffle or something else (I think it was his long range but i heard it a while ago)

basically riot would buff azir if they got rid of his shurima shuffle or they turn him into a karthus type close range mage that relies on his shurima shuffle
