Riot, fix your shit
Another thread bitching about the state of the game, full of empty promises.
Yesterday, as usual for saturdays, one of my days off, I got up, ate breakfast, and hopped on league. I open the client and just think for a minute, what do I want to play? Do I keep practicing Kassadin for making those glorious 4 stacked rift walk kills more reliable? How about playing a reliable game as Elise or Amumu?
And after a few minutes of thinking, I clicked the X on the top right of the window. Hit the confirm logout button, and then launched Smite.
This game, in it's current state, is 100% toxic to the extreme. Riot has been preaching counterplay for the past few years, but at the same time has removed all forms of it. The snowball metagame is 100% out of control, soloque games are determined by the drop of the first tower a good 80% of games, there is no champion that can beat a sated rageblade champ in a fight with any other 2 items, damage is too high across the board, towers feel like wet noodles during dives and break apart like wet toilet paper when you attack them, death timers are around two times as long as they should be after 20 minutes.
AD itemization has gone through the roof in power, resulting in a much heavier snowball potential for any champion that scales off of it, AP itemization still feels like it did last season, which is to say, slower.
I honestly cant tell what riot is doing to their game, but I'm not going to stick around to see at this rate. I'm not going to say that I'm quitting the game, but I've found myself idling more than actually playing, only playing a game when invited or prompted. Sure, I do think that I'm burned out on league, but my recent experience with the game, has not been pleasant. Every single game has felt the same, with meta diversity going down the drain more and more each week. Every single game has come down to 'what team gets first tower and first major teamfight win', there is no alternate win condition.
So yes, I will say that I'm 100% experiencing burnout due to repetition, I know the signs, but Riot, here's the thing,_ MOBAS SHOULD NOT BE REPETITIVE!!!_ I am a smite player, a dota player, and a league player. Okay, lets take a look at smite and dota, you have extremely diverse metagames with very, very few overlapping champs. When you have these unique characters, no game is the same. I have never played the same dota game twice, I have never played the same smite game twice. Prior to this season, I have never played the same league game twice.
League's taken a step towards major champ homogenization as opposed to celebrating each champ's unique kits and usefulness. Right now, it's a contest to see who is the best of X class and then using them, leaving all the others in the dust. Lets say juggernauts. You have Illaoi, who is 100% outclassed by garen and darius in the semi-immobile ad bruiser meta. Illaoi is just one example, but it's happening across the board with many, many champions and archtypes.
Riot, at this point, you do not know your playerbase or your own game really. What you say on record does not match the affects your patches have on the game. This has got to be the most toxic, least diverse metagame i've ever played in in a moba ever. I played during last year's Troll Warlord/Sniper metagame in dota, i play smite right now with Amaterasu still going fucking nuts. I really have no words to describe my feeling on this. It's somewhere between outrage at riot for ruining a game that i have enjoyed for a year and a half, outrage at myself for spending money on skins and champs that's now going to waste, disappointment that a major part of my life is dying in my eyes, and just a bit of general depression over it.
I expect to see my game numbers dropping rapidly until I drop league in favor of Smite or Dota again. I'll be watching patchnotes, hoping for good changes headed in league's directions, but i'm honestly not hopeful.
