2 simple thoughts for the meta hating crowd

hi, i see so much outrage here on boards and so many attention seeking "i quit" posts, that i decided to give those guys some ideas to think and relax.

before i start, quick warning: i know, many players on gameplay boards wont understand it, but: there are actual people, who like this meta and i am 1 of them. i play jungle divers since season 2. i dont like getting "outplayed" by braindead tanks or 3 shotted (with 3 autos at max att speed) by a "hypercarry". i like playing and playing against fighters and i think mages, juggernauts and assassines are actual fair and fun classes to play against.

that being said: the majority of gameplay boards seems to disagree. so here are the 2 promised thoughts: 1.: the meta will always change or league will die instantly. why would riot listen or talk to crying boards members, when those really cant see the simple truth: lol has to change constantly to avoid getting lame. lol is already a really simple game, you go to your lane, you lane, roam, take objectives, you teamfight around big objectives, you lose/win. riot cannot just make it 6vs6 or add a bot team. to keep this game interesting, atleast the meta has to constantly change. we all know, this meta will end. the same tristana lulu premades, who told me that rightclickchamp+pointandclickccandshildslave+ardentcancer is balanced, fair and fun last season, will cry this season about evil evil burst dmg. the same guys, who outbursted mages with rightclick autos from 700 range! but dont worry, they will come back. just look at the pbe. except fighter metas. those are rare for whatever reason. so let people enjoy the meta they like, yours will come back soon.

and to all people yelling, that this meta would make people quit: you are talking BS. 2.: the moba years are over. lcs and worlds got less views not just in this season. every game, every genre ages. lol isnt "dead" but it isnt "the" game anymore. battle royale games are the most populare games at the moment, but after 4-5 years the next thing will come. i guess, something with even less attention span required. dota2 and lol are now games for moba loving players. the time, where you played lol just because everyone plays, is over.

but if you really really disagree with me and cant stand this super bad meta, where your favorite champion does not work as well, i got 1 last tip for you: play an other game! there are thousands of them. my friends always recomment stuff like warframe ("amazing"). i play r6siege at the moment. great game.

but pls dont tell riot to increase game time. everyone loves a comeback story, right? not you, if you just won all lanes but cant finish, because waveclear bots like ziggs and sivir can even deny baron pushes. if you lost all lanes and the other team gets baron, they deserve to win. fact.

and please keep your dignity. if an udyr player cries on boards that taliyahs dmg is too high, remember that your stat stick champion has some nice dmg itself. and you dont even have to aim.

i hope, you survived my english (if not, i am sorry). have a great day.

I understand what you're saying dude. But the emphasis on burst and heavy aggression is only part of the problem. You said yourself, "LOL is a simple game".

Here's the thing, up until the last couple of seasons it was not so simple. You didn't have to play just team fighting or skirmishing comps. Your macro play used to be as important if not more important than your mechanics. You used to be able to play poke, siege, split push, and rotation heavy comps just as reliably as aggressive fighting comps.

While our champion pool may be wider than ever (which is really cool I will admit), when you look at what the zoomed out picture of what the LOL landscape looks like...it has been very dumbed down over the past year or two. It's one dimensional (all about engage/aggression/snowball), and viable strategies/comps have been very narrowed down. Sure maybe the champs will vary wildly from game to game, BUT...the win condition is always the same, game after game.

That's the core of the problem, a robust, cerebral game reduced to a state where it's just about who can engage more effectively. And as to your point about the game needing to change, how do you explain things like Starcraft II and Counterstrike which exist for years at a time and are wildly popular despite only having tweaks and tunings regularly with large scale reworks being almost unheard of?

Look I know that Riot is trying to run a business and that the majority of the player base are casuals who probably don't want to learn 5 different styles of play and how each of them countered the others. But that was what drew in a lot of the original player base. That element of having an advantage as a veteran and student of the game. I think ostracizing some of your older players is more of a risky move than dialing back reworks and large scale changes.
