Hextech crafting champion shards are awful

I really hate that since i own all the champs, i get screwed out of my money when i buy chests and get champions, because now i have 9 champion shards just mocking me. When will i be able to get rid of these awful shards and still open up chests? I really like opening chests, but getting more then one champion shard just sours the entire pull. Please Riot, just let me get rid of these stupid champion shards, or at least make it so that i cant open them anymore, that would improve the system SO much.
