The overlooked success of Season 7

Plants. I was SERIOUSLY apprehensive about the introduction of plants into the jungle but they strike such a good balance of interaction without taking away from core gameplay and skill expression. I feel like it was a great way to add some variability to the game and were a great addition overall.

I don't understand how this was even such a big issue back in the preaseason.

You'd think Riot was removing Summoner's Rift with the meltdown people were having.

No way, scryers bloom and jellyfruit maybe, but the blast cone can kiss my ass.

I wouldn't call it a success so much as a neutral change since smite buffs were removed in exchange for this.

what do you mean success ? plants are the worst addition to the jungle

Packun Flower10/25/2017, 9:57:36 AM17 votes

I fucking hate plants personally.

Plants are a crutch for bad players. I still hate them, but whatever.

It's not as bad as I had originally thought it'd be, but that's because Riot announced it as another RNG system where the plants would "randomly spawn around the map" or something along those lines.

Do I like them still? Nope. I dislike almost all of the changes to the jungle since season 5. They've done nothing but make it an easier and more forgiving role between a) removal of smite buffs b) giving out free buff timers c) easy vision control d) forgiving plants to over-compensate for smite buffs

These may be enjoyable or positive changes for newer junglers or someone looking for an easy time, but now the jungle just feels like wasted an easy shell of what it used to be, and plants contributed to that imo.

it was really intended for junglers to stop following the exact same route all the time, and it achieved that. It also gave other positions something to do in the jungle. But if there's anything I dont like about it, the plants are more accessible to whichever team has more map control, and it actually contributes to snowballing for that reason. This is going to sound absurd but for me personally, the negatives of 3rd one outweighs positives of 1st and 2nd one, and i don think anyone else would ever feel that way.

Yes for scryers bloom. No for the others.

Honeyfruit is an unfair way of regaining half your health in between waves when you lost a trade in lane.

Blast cone makes people survive when they shouldnt have. It never makes plays or anything.

Plants are detrimental to the game's balance imo. They add unecessary RNG and nothing positive to the game. They are more frustrating than anything tbh. People get away with shit that they shouldn't.

I got used to them with time... still doesn't mean I like them

Blakiepug10/25/2017, 2:03:32 PM6 votes

I still don't like the blast cone... :/ Never feels good when I use it to escape, I'm just kind of like "ok, that happened," and it also doesn't feel good when enemies use it for obvious reasons.

Kloqdq10/25/2017, 12:38:15 PM5 votes

I am still really against the blast cone. Out of all the plants, that is the only one I have not grown to like at all.

The new drakes are and rift herald are also a huge improvement

tbh I still dislike blast cones, they are a pain to use in the thick of the action, hard to click, 90% of the time I only blow them up so enemies can't use them later or if i'm casually moving around the map and want to hop something... and a few of them seem completely useless like the deep jungle one behind Blue buff

Knalxz10/25/2017, 9:42:57 AM3 votes

Wait, do you not know why people were upset with Plants?

It was because they were said to be completely random at first meaning no, just no. They got rid of the lesser jungle camp buffs when plants were being introduced which lead to even more hate. Finally plants favored highly mobile and ranged champions because they could get to them first. Giving more power to the group of champions who didn't need it.

Don't forget the massive buff to mastery spamming. Now you can spam it while you're spamming it.

I may not be great at animation cancelling with Riven but I can animation cancel tf out of my mastery.

A "skillful" game such as league doesn't need random changes like plants or elemental dragons every preseason. I still think they're retarded.

Ebolol10/26/2017, 10:28:52 AM2 votes

Unpopular Opinion: I dislike blastcone because I think it opens up more get-out-of-jail-free cards for mistakes than it does rewards for play makers. The only cool and rewarding blastcone trick I have really seen is the Caps' Ryze flast-blastcone play, aside from a few uses of it to get to a lane to gank earlier. Aside from that it's just an escape for someone who's overextended, and lets be honest, nobody really factors blastcones into their escape plans most of the time since they may not even know if they're there.

The other plants though bring a lot to the game, and I like the introduction of them as a whole.

AssauIto10/25/2017, 7:11:01 PM2 votes

The plants help make it so that if you're smart you don't get utterly destroyed by constant counter junging.
Compare to season 6 where anyone could see accurate and global buff timers and there were no plants that could give you vision, help you escape, or restore hp.

I uhh still don’t like plants. Sorry.

They’re not game breakers or anything. I just don’t like losing kills to that damn blast plant.
