I had alot of "Supports" latly...

Since word has spread that you can support with an AP poke champ, I've seen a lot of people trying it out! ... The thing is, They're taking the position and seemingly have NO idea what a support is actually supposed to do!

Just in the last 2 days; I've played ADC 3 times (Vayne, Tristana, and Quinn) In my Vayne game, I was "Supported" by an Azir who had more CS then me by the 10 min mark! at first I wasn't going to say anything b/c I know how scary a fed Azir is... BUT then he died 5 times in lane making reckless plays, and I was too starved to do anything! Then he has the nerve to try and tell the whole team it was my fault! (They didn't belive him. :P ) All while not placing a single ward.

In the Tristana game, I was "Supported" by a Fizz, who was taking multiple toke breaks between waves... And pretty much just sat motionless in the bushes until he could jump out and make a kill... We won the lane and all, but it was more because our opponents were potatoes :P If we'd been facing more formitable players, this 1 and a half vs 2 might have been bad. All while NEVER placing a ward... :P

And lastly... Quinn... My "support" was a Renekton... Nothing to say except feed, feed, fed! He got grabbed by enemy Blitz and then stunned by Vayne 6 times in 12 minuets ALWAYS resulting in death by Vayne... And guess how many wards he placed? :P

As someone who learned how to properly support by being forced to do it so many times on my climb to Level 30, It's just mind boggling that so many people, even ranked, still have NO idea how to do it! Even if you don't like to play certain positions as much as others, you should still learn how! It will improve your game in other aspects as well! Nobody likes being that guy who feeds because he doesn't know what to do!

Please take the time to learn every position and the duties involved with at least 1 or 2 champs. It's worth it to not be " That guy" :P

As a gold support main it offends me when people think that support is just a duo carry lane as opposed to a unique role with its own challenges and intricacies.

Having said that, Morgana and Lulu support are pretty good, although that's partly because their kit is quite useful with a support build, as opposed to building AP.

lol, I personally LOL when the enemy team is more afraid of Soraka than they are of the allies because of Soraka's insane poke damage with good skill shots XD

and of course everyone's favorite line, "fear the banana!"

The sheer amount of hate I get for playing Soraka and preventing kills by erasing the enemies damage is amazing.

The more people on the enemy team I piss off, the better I'm doing.

as a taric main, my highlights are

  1. stunning the enemy fed trynd/yi/etc. in their tracks
  2. hittting full build and having r go from 'team buff' to DUNK MODE. ppl dont realize that taric is one fo the few champs that gets free offensive stats--until its too late.

On the other hand, a competent team will just blow you up first.

Targeting 101: Goat. Most fed carry. Next Carry. Assassin. Tank. Support.

Soraka can easily build tanky and be impossible to dive while making it almost impossible to dive the carries either. Its pretty insane. item 3069 item 2045 item 3190item 3050item 3047item 3065

its not realistic for a short game but doable in a 40 minute one. being 6 slotted on a support is easier than being 6 slotted on a carry, especially if you don't upgrade sightstone and get tanky enough so that you're in every teamfight.

I actually second this, low elo people are largely incapable of supporting, because they don't know how it is supposed to work. I can carry my ADC a lot of the time when supporting as long as they go with what I'm doing. If I'm playing Naut, I want to level 2 bully the crap out of the other bot lane, go with me and you'll get at least 1 kill 90% of the time. I hate when my ADC underestimates Naut's base damages and just backs off when I go aggressive. If I hit all 3 waves of riptide on the ADC, they just lost 1/5 of their hp, do that once more and the ADC just used their potion.

When I have a support Naut he levels hook first and gets himself killed.

Thing is that on Lulu, you WANT to build AP, but you can make do with less of it because your base damages are so absurdly high... but your shield is ALL AP, and your movespeed buff scales with AP. Unfortunately, transmogrify doesn't scale with AP... which makes me sad.

Utility Scaling: All supports' utility will be nerfed+ but given AP scaling++.

+No really. All of it.

++Only speed buffs and slows will actual gain scaling.

I get that it's a concern, but Lulu's utility is actually tied to her AP from the start. It's what makes her viable as a solo laner.

It's also what makes Zeke's so freaking broken on her.

That's just... Yuck!

I get wards on every champ I play in support... Even starting to get sightstone on some top laners and junglers tbh. I play mostly tanks, so the HP isn't that much of a diversion. It usually ends up helping my team a lot.

Fuck people who don't ward... Fuck em with a rusted spoon.

Do your Lulu supports at least build sightstone>Censer>Zeke's?

Zilean and Soraka are the two true supports. They fit exactly into that niche and don't have any place anywhere else. Zoning, ally buffs, and poke.

AP Poke champions can definitely support, but you need to actually support and not be an AP carry, some people are too dumb to know the difference.

The only Support that I could see going full AP would be Annie, since the main reason she's played Support is because she can engage so hard.

Annie isn't a support. (>_>) She's taken support.

Like many other champions (mages especially), they can go Support if they're willing to give up their lane gold. Supports, however, are the champions that aren't allowed to go into other roles (Lulu not withstanding since Riot just gave up on trying to nerf her).

My utility build is complete ass thanks to my low base values on all my spells Sadly AP support itemization sucks ass too, providing me with very little AP When I take item 3100 and item 3285 we don't do it for ourselves, we do it for you, even if we have the most kills in the game, we are just forced at gunpoint to build these items because every other option we have is useless

Sona is my highest ranked support! I know what ya gotta do. I assume your still buying a item 2049 and warding regularly though! :P

I will NEVER criticize a support that's at least TRYING to do the job properly; nor will I call someone out for a non - meta pick. It's more about how they played once the game began. A lot of "supports" play like APC's or top lane brawlers w/o warding, harassing, setting up plays at THE RIGHT times, or leaving most of the farm for the ADC.

No, I don't build sighstone, and because of it I made a highly downvoted thread in the recent past

I just do not meld well with Sighstone, it does nothing for me when I am playing AP Sona (ONLYSONA), it only makes my mistakes I make more prevalent because the only stats I care for, are stats that make me feel useful, sighstone comes with none of that

No, HP just doesn't help as much as other stats. You still have more health after casting W than you would without it.

Renekton support is barely viable if you can land the stun reliably. It's hard to manage rage because you can't AA much, though.

Any champion can support if played right, even yi, it's a play style not the champion selected

A support yi would build as a tank with items that slow the enemy, for example you could build sunfire and crystal sceptor to be a mobile slow with hp, add in a lissandras torment and more tank items, and you become an aoe damage slow that can't be slowed , can catch up to enemies, to slow them, then if focused meditate while your allies kill them

I was an ad yi one game and the enemy kept focusing me so once I had the gold I traded all my items for tank build and went in, meditated, they focused me and I died but that was happening every team fight, instead it took them so long to kill me my team cleaned up house by the time I died they had lost the fight, because I changed from damage to tank and they focused me (it was a long game and I had a lot of gold) that team fight led to an ace and victory

It's fucking annoying. They try to build AP items, but don't have enough kills or CS to complete them. By 20 minutes, you're now playing a 4v5 because they're completely useless.

Yeah, no, this is why i don't let anyone else support in my ranked games anymore (+ it's my main). It's either a full AP Sona, there are no wards in bot lane, enemy botlane gets fed, ect.

Like, building full AP as support handicaps your team b/c you don't get enough gold to keep up and you have less utility then you would if you were actually building support. Adversely, I love playing against supports who do this; they're so focused on getting $$ and kills that they don't support very well and I crush them.

Please tell me you at least put down some (and purchased!) wards yourselves. Only thing worse than a support not warding (blegh) is two people in one lane not buying wards.

I always buy my trinket upgrade ASAP, heck there are games where I still place more stealth wards then the sup! :P I know how big a difference the vision can make!

I don't know where the hell someone played Azir and Fizz well enough to use them as supports, but they have shit all for CC and both have weak early lane phases. They're just bad picks for damage supports. I've played Mundo support and it can be pretty good (run mpen quints and maybe even blues and suddenly you're dealing crazy poke damage leveling cleaver, so when you go in w/ ult and exhaust they can't kill you and either you or the adc cleans up bc they can't run fast enough w/ cleaver slows), but you have to know it well bc it's really risky (Mundo sucks if he's behind a bunch bc he might have the dmg from base dmg but doesn't have the tank stats to survive and use it, and he lacks the cc to be a threat/useful w/out tanky dmg)

Unless you're really good w/ something that's off meta support (I can Heimer support in low elo really well bc he's my main, and knowing how to use his ult e for initiation gives him some actual utility), people should just stick w/ high utility damage if they go dmg bot lane (annie, lux, morg, maybe jarvan still but I think the removal of armor bonus from flag made him too weak as a support)

Yes. just brought back the lux, ziggs, anivia, brand, zilean, kennen supports back. I peeled my ADC as much as I could, but I don't value that more over catching the other ADCs into a position where my ADCs can kill them. Not best peelers like janna and them, but somewhat similar to those blitz & thresh, with a bit more power and less sustain.

I'd argue semantics then and say that you're playing a mage/assassin and not a "support". In general though, I'm okay with that just as I'm okay with people who believe just buying a sightstone/gp-item doesn't automatically make your character a "support".

After around 200-250 support games this season at low ELO, I can tell you that building mage instead of utility support is a much more enjoyable experience overall.

An extremely common example is when the team ignores a split pusher, ignores a wave pushed up to a turret, rushes Baron/Dragon with minion waves pushing through base, or being the only one to survive a bad team fight.

In cases like that, it's extremely helpful to have enough damage to push out super-minion waves. If you play a full utility Janna, for example, and your team is so mongo that they literally lose the game to minions, there's nothing you can do about it.

In general, there are just way too many stupid players picking carries to make pure support a reliably enjoyable experience. Far too many times I've dutifully stuck by the Riven/Vayne/Ekko/Yi, etc only to get picked off while they chase across the map, through fog, under turrets, and into the enemy's secure base to get a kill.
