How did you pick your main role/champ for ranked?

S3 I maimed jungle because the first champ I really loved while leveling to 30 was amumu and he got me hooked on jungle. Ended up playing nunu because he is super annoying and I love champs that are bullies and just make you cringe because you know even if you win it is gonna hurt. Didn't like the jungle in s4 and never really found a main, but have been playing heimerdinger this season because he was the other champ I loved while leveling (prerework he was considered kinda troll in ranked so I drifted away from him) and he's another champ who is super annoying.

How did other people pick a role and champ to main in ranked (or how did you decide against that and what do you play)?

Whoever I do best with. That's literally it. Like right now, I'm so good with Janna and Nami that I wouldn't want to play some other champion that I'd be a lot less likely to win with.

My main is Annie support. She was the first champion I've bought (with RP, back when I was a noob). I thought she was super cool. I mean, she's a little girl that throws fire and bears at people. Like, c'mon.

Gameplay wise, she has no skillshots, she does a lot of damage, she's good at getting carried, and she's good at carrying. And when I'm ahead, I can say "Beaten by a little girl, HA!".

I picked jungle originally because in my cardboard 7 days, I couldn't lane/cs at all item 3070

I started with Warwick and Amumu, and liked Amumu, so I bought Sejuani and Nautilis. Since I liked tanks, I decided to learn toplane, and bought Wukong, Darius, and Cho'Gath. I also picked up Leona in case I got stuck supporting, and actually enjoy playing her. I'm currently trying to expand my champion pool - I'm learning Irelia top and might try taking her or Cho'gath jungle. I'm also planning on buying Gragas.

Long story short, start with what you like. If you're not good at it, you probably won't like it (which is why, to this day, I will never pick an assassin). Then, expand your role and champion pool based on that.

My advice in general for selecting new roles is: If you like ADC, learn whatever support you like to have. If you like mage mids, learn a mage support (ex. Annie, Zyra) or an ADC. If you like toplane, try a tank or fighter jungler (ex. Sejuani or Vi) or a tank support (ex. Leona, Braum). If you like roaming assassin mids, try an assassin jungler (ex. Kha'zix, Rengar).

Well, I became a top lane main around the end of season 3 when I first started playing Singed, just because I thought he was the most ridiculous and fun champ in the game. As time went on, I realized that I was too much of a wimp to proxy farm, and I was trash at last hitting normally, so I started moving more towards AD top laners. I finally tried out Trundle in the top lane during the Mundo/Shyvanna/Renekton meta in early season 4, and I just really enjoyed playing him.

Now, I only played like 25 games of ranked last season, and I haven't bothered yet this season, but all I can really say is find a Champion you wouldn't mind playing for hundreds of games in a row and you're ready to take on Solo Queue.

Initially, it sort of came down to what champions I like playing, and what role they fit in. I played a lot of Sona and Janna in S3, so I was a support main. Near the end of s3/start of s4, I really started to like Gragas, so I mained mid with him, and, after his rework, transitioned him to support for a while. I also started to like Jinx and Tristana more, so I played more ADC (also I was sort of frustrated with bad ADCs at my elo, and figured I could at least be competent in the role; I did okay). This season I wanted to focus more on my fundamentals, but I don't have a ton of time to play and keep my mechanics sharp, so I don't play as much ADC; basically I play mid or support because I like getting control of a game through map pressure and vision, and because Morgana mid is easy peasy :P. Since I don't play too much though, I usually will fill, preferring mid or support when I get the chance.

ive always been a "mage" at heart across all games, the first time i played league veigar happened to be free that week, fell in love instantly, at the time i was doing beginner 3v3 bots to learn how to play the game and i would always go top lane because there was always 2 other champions there and i loved dropping meteors.

that led me to other ap based champions and they just happen to be mid laners, so i went to the mid lane. and now im quite good at it, mostly because i grew up with tons of lag so i had to become good at ping prediction and "leading your shots" to ensure they hit, otherwise you wind up dead yourself.
