See You Space Dragon...

Is it just me or does an all powerful, astral being who forges and destroys stars being a consistent-damage mage(instead of a disgusting burst mage) of champion miss the mark somewhere? Its a different concept, and do not get me wrong that isn't a bad thing.

Being a badass dragon and being hyped so much close to release, and with a 1.5% pick rate

to this day, this champion is niche at best, definitely one of those champions that have people to main it just because others people do not, e.g.Urgot Aatrox Mordekaiser

Riot Axes was saying something about doing a Shyvana -esque sized update

>We had to delay it quite a bit for resourcing reasons, but yes, we're still planning something at around the Shyvana-ish scope for Sol," Axes said. "We're ramping up on it now, so it'll be at least a few more patches before we have anything to show."

That was early last month, curious when that will occur.

In the quote he mentioned "a few patches" this was disclosed late Dec -- early Jan that would have been patch 6.24, its currently 7.3, that timeline is 3 patches since it was late in 6.24 that it was announced.

if we take that into consideration and the official definition of 'few'.. LUL

>few fyo͞o/Submit determiner, adjective, & pronoun 1. a small number of. "may I ask a few questions?" synonyms: a small number, a handful, one or two, a couple, two or three; not many, hardly any "there weren't many biscuits, but we saved you a few" 2. used to emphasize how small a number of people or things is. "he had few friends"

and see, one or two, two or three (patches) we can estimate the mini rework is late and should be out in the coming patches

Then Riot Meddler crashes all hopes and dreams with the Soon™ statement..

I see no reason to change a champion that's unique and balanced. I think his play patterns are really cool and interesting and that shouldn't be changed to appeal to people who don't appreciate him.

It isn't about uniqueness, his character in itself is unique, he simply isn't played, except for AurelionSol mains, the problem is his skill floor is very high.. close to his skill ceiling and because of this you are either a god with Aurelion Sol or you are just bad.

I'm pretty sure he isn't played because not a lot of people really enjoy the AoE dps style of mage. Karthus is also very unpopular despite having had an amazing winrate in solo queue for a long time, being recommended by streamers as a good champion to main, and being fairly simple to play in concept. They're prefer burst AoE for multi-kills, burst single target for assassinations, or sustained single target for dueling power and tank melting.

It would make me very sad if Riot actually went through with a change like the one they talked about where A.Sol wouldn't have stars passively rotating around him except when his W was activated, to me that sounds like a major loss of something unique, balanced, and interesting.

I don't get why people have such an issue with Sol. He's got counterplay, he's strong if played properly, and isn't bad in the slightest while being incredibly fun. So what if he's not the easiest champ to use well?

Well honestly his concept is badass, but from his playrate of 1.5% that 'badass' concept doesn't trump that his learning curve is too steep and even when you do get past the learning curve, he isn't a fun and dynamic champion to play.

[...] he isn't a fun and dynamic champion to play.

And I'm calling bullshit right there. Sol is incredibly fun to play.

And a lot of champions have playrates lower, even the new Yorick. So what if not everyone plays him? Everyone likes different things -- why's that an issue?

?

Because Yorick is bad, only good in solo queue because ridic good splitting and even then not good in comparison to other champions that do relatively the same with better dueling potential.

I am simply speaking objectively, you are speaking your opinion which isn't bad, but is subjectively, my opinion coincides with his pick rate which is MAX 1.5%, which also includes the league community, the majority.

People want to have fun with AurelionSol but a steep learning curve isn't popular amongst the community, another example would be them taking Kalista E(Rend) off CD after killing just 1 minion instead of 2, sounds like something very minuscule but there in fact a skill disparity that they relieved by making a champion less complicated.

First, go look up the definition of "objective" and "subjective." New Yorick isn't bad by any means. He has his own set of strengths and weaknesses, as does any other champ. And a lot of people who try him are terrible at him. There are very high ELO Yorick players with a 70% winrate on him. Just because you think he's bad, and he isn't popular, doesn't mean he's actually bad. He's just not very flashy, and so a lot of the little kids who play this game don't feel cool when they play him.

Second, saying anything in a game with 1-4 buttons has a steep learning curve is a fucking joke. The "hardest" character in this game is braindead, and anyone who isn't too lazy to get off their fat ass and put in some effort can play this game easily.

Meddler told us few days ago that the work they had on Aurelion Sol was scrapped because it felt worse for Aurelion Sol players and the others (it had his passive stars removed), so I guess we are back on square 1.

I still play him a lot and I enjoy him, fortunally my matches aren't flooded with divers or Syndras so I get my chance to breath. Anyway, Aurelion Sol is still powerful in teamfights since his huge utility and the fact that being forced to care about the fight makes your enemies less careful about avoiding your stars.
