AP Down again

So I started early S4 back in the days when Athenas Unholy Grail was at its peak. However since then AP items have gone through several major reworks and all most every time the total AP goes down. Back in S4 a normal mid build would be Athenas, Ziohnas DFG deathcap for a total of 546 AP 30% Cdr unlimited mana effectively plus a handful of other stuff.

We just don't have that kind of power any more in AP stuff well on the other hand AD just keeps going up and getting more effects. It just sucks to see a huge portion of the roster held back so much by the dumpster fire of AP items we have now compared to back then.
