What was the goal of switching to the boards?

Half a year ago the forums were shut down in favor of using the boards. Half a year latter they are still plagued by many of the same issues as before such as the colors being so dark as to cause eye strain. The mods being unhelpful when removing post. I feel as tho this has not been a upgrade in any way over the old forums I would like to know why we swapped the forums with this.
