Why are people so in love with item 3285 ? I see people build it before a mana item (item 3174/item 3165) and before item 3089.

What am I missing? I might build it as a 5th item, after item 3020/item 3158 , mana item, deathcap, and item 3135, but what is the purpose of rushing it?

the passive proc. Though it's better to get it as a 2nd item than first because you need a little of AP to make the passive strong. It gives that quick burst of damage similar to if you used DFG

ludens gives early wave clear, a lot of movespeed, and a pretty big powerspike for spam-casting mages like kogmaw or ziggs. it makes you a little more blue buff-reliant, but it's a useful tool.

Big amount of AP, movespeed for roaming and dodging, waveclear, additional burst and extraordinary poke.
