Why do I have to lose LP for this? It's offensive and I'm disgusted.

Before I say anything, the focus of this thread is Matchmaking, not how poorly anyone did in the match or what I could have done to win.

Ok so, I just queued up solo for a Ranked game. Trying to hit Gold so desperately this Season. I have never done it before but I feel I have improved a LOT since I started playing again during Season 4-5.

So here I am, sitting in Lobby after a couple of dodges and I see these guys have similar names and club tags. I mention that I'd like to play ADC since I got put mid instead. "Sure" the guy says. I'm like ok, they're nice enough at least.

We all make our picks and the match is about to start. "First time ranked" the guy says and I let out a good chuckle because you hear this kind of joke a lot.

NOPE. He wasn't joking. I looked it up. My eyes bulged. I started sweating profusely. "WHAT JUST HAPPENED" I yell in my head.

We get into game and I'm already feeling anxious. "You guys are ACTUALLY unranked?"

"Yeah I just hit level 20" another guy says.

Instead of immediately tilting, I try to convince myself that they're smurfing, or that they would stomp the enemy team out of sheer beginners luck. Me and Morgana get into lane and it's ABUNDANTLY clear from the beginning that she has NO idea what she's doing. She bought 5 biscuits, and used Black Shield at the MOST RANDOM times, basically any time but when actual fights occured. I told her, "Morg go buy a support item - Spellthief's Edge is the one you want" and she goes back... And starts buying a Frozen Heart instead.

I cringed.

I cried a little.

The enemy Volibear is now 4/0 against our Jax who has no armor or defensive item. Our middle Zed is losing hard. Our jungle Teemo is nowhere to be seen.

In the end it was a COMPLETE massacre. There was nothing our team could do to the stop them.

So why did this have to happen? What kind of system is in place that would match a solo player with over 200+ games with a COMPLETELY UNRANKED premade + A LEVEL 20 AGAINST Gold and High Silver players? Why did I even have to lose LP for this? Obviously, if I win 2 games I can recover from the -17 LP, but let's be serious - it's a giant load of shit that it even happened in the first place.

EditEdit; guy isn't lvl 20, but he is still a seemingly fresh unranked lvl 30 being put against 2 Gold players.

I think you should tell riot about this send a ticket or something, they probably will say sry and end it there But yeh that is spaghetti code for ya, level 20 playing ranked

Its a combination of a few things I would say.

  1. if they are unranked, then the system has no way to know what rank they're at except for their normals MMR, so that throws off way they are placed. They may have been slotted against people better than themselves so the system can gauge where they are at.

2)if they are premade, that boosts the MMR they have to face in order to balance the assumed advantage they get from playing together

  1. MMR doesnt always match rank, the people on either team could have mmrs that drastically differ from their rank, likewise for your team, this would cause the system to match all of you with people of a lower/higher rank

Also in Silver I would generally recommend not looking this kind of stuff up pregame since it does nothing but put you on tilt (you even note that in your post). Also Morg wasn't building a frozen heart, she built a Zeke's Herald (I'm assuming you saw the glacial shroud and just assumed, but ZH also builds out of shroud) which is an admittedly bad first rush (and she still didnt buy her support item) but it's not as bad as rushing a frozen heart.

You need to be Max level for ranked.
