Now QSS on the other hand should still removed it even after 6.9 hits live since it is a CC debuff.

It is a CC debuff so it should still work once 6.9 hits However if you are trying to stop the malz ult damage you have to run away after using this active.

Stay out of their range, or at least don't be in a position where they can ult you without getting immediately destroyed by your team.

Banshee's Veil and QSS aren't actually counterplay, they're just counters.

Malzahar and Warwick's ults are supposed to take advantage of lone or mislocated champions. For Warwick who is a jungler, keep your side of the map warded so he can't surprise you during the laning phase and then just stick with your team during the teamfight phase and his ult can be knocked off of you. For Malzahar who's a laner, the same advice is true for the teamfight phase, but the laning phase is tricky as it's a bit more 1 on 1. The real trick is to stay away from him until your jungler shows up for a gank and then see if you can bait him into using it and getting punished by a gank.

Of course if you're team didn't bring any silences, stuns, knock ups, or knock backs, you're just as screwed as being against a Yi with no hard CC.
