First time Syndra players in ranked

Yeah... recently finished a ranked match where some meta slave who was struggling to decide whether or not he wanted to go Kennen or Syndra decided to pick Syndra despite only having played her once in a normal match. Proceeds to go 1/10/2, and I end up doing nearly three times as much damage as a support mage.

I really wish Riot would institute some sort of minimum experience requirement to bring a champion into ranked. At least 10 normal matches... is that too much to ask for? I would prefer 20 but 10 is still better than ONE. This is the most frustrating thing to encounter in ranked... someone who just doesn't care enough to bother learning their champion before immediately choosing whatever's on the god tier list. It's practically griefing.

Only issue with the system is switching... I don't play most champions, but I can pick then switch. I do it regularly. Also, heck, I've played Syndra about three times and did fine. She's not hard.

They'll never impliment a system like this, trust me, i've made several board posts about this issue and they don't seem to give a shit, I even came across an employee in game one time and they said it would basically be a broken system.

They won't do it because they're a business first. It's the same reason they're probably going to go ahead and implement plants even if competitive players protest. Being locked out of champions when you are a meta slave, have the attention span of a goldfish, and are unwilling to invest time into practicing the champion before entering ranked can be a deterrent to playing the game, and thus spending money on skins, or unlocking champions, etc.

Well, that and it'd be super hard to actually impliment due to the fact that you could be "murdered" in picks/bans. Let's say you're playing ranked with elise/lee/kennen/vlad "unlocked", get stuck with support and have the enemy team ban out elise/lee/kennen. You'd either be forced to swap roles with someone (heavily unlikely in lower ranks), dodge (and get a penalty), or stay and play a game with a crappy character.

Not really. Ranked already requires that a certain number of champions be unlocked before queueing so as to avoid being "murdered." It wouldn't be difficult to do something along the lines of "queue as support only if you have more than 4 characters classified as being capable of supporting to 10 games' experience on each respectively."

Again, it would hurt the customer base because people want instant gratification and will jump into ranked without even trying to learn the game first.

I play ranked to win. Normals are always there for casual players but I really believe that a player should have experience in several champions for every role before trying ranked.

  1. If I'm only allowed to lock in a champion that I've got X experience on, how can I trade a champion I don't play with a teammate for a champion I do play? Something would need to change there.
  2. MMR would need to be at least softly shared between normal and ranked. The highest ranked players can't just queue up in a Normal match and get a decent game, they have to play Ranked to practice new champions. That would need to be fixed for them to not first time play them.
