AP junglers need mana

Fisk··4 votes·966 views

Right now AP junglers really suffer because unlike most champions whose cdr/mana regen is on the same item (and if you need to max out cdr you go lucidity usually) with ap junglers you are forced to buy a cdr and mana/cdr item because the only good ap mana item that you can build early (you have to rush tear and roa) are the athenes/morello . That would be fine but it pretty heavily gimps their early game damage which is a huge problem. Please find some way to put extra mana regen on the AP jungler item.

Have you tried purple smite?

It is the saving grace of the ap jungler. God bless it, but it honestly is not enough in my opinion :(

I suggested like a "form" of spellvamp, where it converts a% of your damage to regained mana

This sounds cool, but it should probably be vs. monsters only, so they don't get tons of mana for taxing/waveclearing a lane (and so that mids won't be tempted to take it so they can get tons of mana for waveclearing their own lane).

I can see something like item 3725 but built out of item 3070. Gives some AP, cuts out the cdr, boosts your mana pool and regen.

That might actually be good but some of the ap junglers can't build tear so maybe something like chalice or idol?

as a jungle main i have no problem with mana. Honestly roa, frozen heart, iceborne guants, glory, all fine. you get mana refunds when killing large monsters, and there are potions readily available every recall. I am completely serious mana is pretty balanced in this game. Ive never played a champ in which i felt I HAD TO SPAM ABILITIES to be viable, and when im losing lane and i do, its because im a jungler and just bad at laning.

For me at least, junglers like fiddlesticks can't rush roa because they need zhonya, he can't build gauntlet nor frozen heart or glory. He has to get a morellonomicon or athenes or he must take his midlaners blue (which can gimp your midlanes pushing power/kill potential). I agree that mana is balanced but ap junglers really could use some extra mana regen.

It's not the mid laner's blue. It's anyone on the team's blue. If you hesitate to take mage junglers unless you have Zed Yasuo Katarina Akali and don't have competition, well, three of those aren't exactly rare champions; but mids should be under just as much of an expectation to itemize for their mana issues (if they have them) as junglers are. More, actually, because item 1056 works better on them (and they can start with it) AND they get more gold and levels for free.

However, I certainly wouldn't complain if Riot increased the mana regen while fighting monsters for every jungle item from item 1039 onwards, and/or give it some kind of Essence Reaver effect vs. monsters only or refund a % of cost of any spell that hits a monster.

It might also be worth thinking about lowering Magus's CDR to 10 and putting some power into some other stat, though, since if you are building a major mana item in addition to your jungle item, several of the likely candidates like item 3174 item 3165 give a lot of CDR already.

They probably don't want to put mana stats directly on Magus because it would feel bad for AP junglers without major mana problems (or who are manaless altogether) to be forced to take it. CDR is at least good when you get it, even if it may become wasted or redundant later.

I haven't played much fiddle. so I really don't know what he needs. But I don't think he shares the same problem as some of the other AP Junglers. Yet I feel like you really don't need a athene's or morrelos, when you have smite buffs and blue buff.

AP Junglers are kinda niche for me because I would only take them if our mid lane was AD (preferably manaless) and we lacked magic damage.

actually, ap junglers have less mana problems than ordinary laners unless you are trying to get dragon or baron early...some champs can dragon,at level 2, others will die

for instance, a fiddlesticks pretty much recovers his whole mana and about 80% of the damage done to him with his W tether and jungle items

if you choose the ap jungler ITEM, you gain 20% cooldown and 80 ap for a cheap price while having any jungling smite you wish, such as the 15% health and mana restore

edit: had the word baron instead of dragon at the start of the post

Yes, this is true. But realistically, outside of early game you MUST have some sort of mana regen on ap junglers. There are a few who don't struggle but for the one's who do it would just be a nice change in my opinion and it would free up their builds greatly.

The AP jungle item provides mana regen (the passive when fighting jungle monsters) and you have blue buff for mana regeneration.

Considering Magus is already 170% gold efficient without it's passives, taking on extra stats shouldn't really be necessary,
