My personal opinion as to why Sivir simply just isn't good

Sassmast3r··3 votes·920 views

There are three primary things I noticed about Sivir that, at least in my opinion, make her worse in comparison to a large majority of the other ADC's.

  1. Her AA Range - Of all three reasons, I believe this to be the major one that makes her just absolutely horrible. Her AA range is the lowest in the game, matching up with Kog Maw's at 500 (which he can even increase with his W). This completely ELIMINATES her chances of Kiting except with her W, and even then, the W's don't do a ton of damage. If this were increased I believe she could be completely viable.

  2. Her Passive - This passive is seriously one of the most atrocious passives I've ever seen due to the fact that it simply doesn't belong on Sivir. As I stated earlier, her AA range is the lowest of all ADC's. So, if you're telling me that the only way for her to get this passive activated is to walk up to an enemy and attack them, when she has the lowest range and therefore would end up in the range of whomever she is attacking to try to get better movement speed to attempt to kill them... I mean, it just doesn't work. If I had any kinda of cc, I could completely destroy her every time she tried to walk up to me to try to kite me. Perhaps I don't quite understand how kiting works, so by all means, please inform me as to how this passive could ever synergize with her kit, but based on what I've seen, this just doesn't work.

  3. Her Kit as a whole - She has one ability that does damage. One. I checked every other marksman in the entire game, and even Urgot's E does poison damage (I'm not entirely sure about Azir or Twitch yet so if someone could tell me if they have more than one damage ability that would be nice :3), yet Sivir literally has ONE DAMAGING ABILITY.

Look, I understand some people are VERY skilled with this champion and are unaffected by these issues, but for someone who has tried most other marksman at least once before, I honestly think Sivir is the worst out of all of them. Any thoughts or arguments defending her maybe? By all means if you have a counter argument feel free to say it, I want to hear your guys' thoughts; Perhaps I'm looking at this totally wrong.

TL;DR - Sivir is a bad ADC in comparison to every other one due to three major flaws within her kit: Her AA range being the lowest in the game, her passive being rendered useless, and her entire kit being comprised of only one damaging ability.

let's just ignore the fact that she has a free righteous glory built in to her ult, great waveclear and can block any spell without getting a banshee's veil.

so yeah, that's a middle finger to the dreaded vi and nautilus ults. that's a middle finger to a Q from zed, and an up yours to any other obnoxious ability. but sure, she's bad. lol

Sivir's got one of the greater pokes in lane as far as ADCs go.

She's one of my main champs that I'll ADC with. The spellshield works excellently for both blocking poke and lane sustain so that you can poke back. She's really good to play into Annie; bait that stun and shield it.

She has one of the better ults for teamfights and escaping, and her waveclear is excellent.

ADCs with lower attack ranges have a greater emphasis on positioning, and Sivir's passive helps her do that; it can be actually easier to dodge skillshots the closer you are.

Saying that her Q is her only damaging ability is also inaccurate. Her W, Ricochet, also happens to reset her autoattack timer so you can get a quick doubletap of burst damage in your trades.

I see, thank you :D

Perhaps it's just me, but her E is REALLY difficult to time... Did you ever have that issue?

Sivir's E is more prediction than reaction. You'll get more use out of the skill when you have read your opponent and know the skill is coming to be able to block with precision timing.

Annie, as an example, is easy to read. She's got her stun, and she's walking towards you. If you know the range of her skills, pop it when she's in range, and that's a blocked bear before you even see the spell come out.

Blitzcrank, same deal. You know he wants to pull. Walk into his range, pop the shield. Fist comes out, and you've blocked it before you even saw it coming because you knew it was coming.

Sivir is also anti-Caitlyn. You don't even need to read her. Caitlyn's traps are free mana. Caitlyn's ult simply will not work on you.

She can traverse a Teemo minefield without caution; it's all just free mana. Make sure you take point, though. If an ally trips it and you have your shield up, you will not block the damage.

I see...

I think the major issue I had (I've actually tried what you've listed before) is that, I would begin to walk up, activate it too soon, and the second it went off then someone like Annie or Blitzcrank would do their thing while all I did was walk up, waste an E, and pretty much suicide. I suppose I just need to learn to use her E later and later while I walk up. Thank you for the advice! :D

It's all mind games. Sometimes you can bait it, shield the spell, and get free mana; other times they're going to know you are trying to bait them, wait your shield out, and then punish you. You'll need to do some observation of your enemies' behavior to know how reliably using yourself as bait will work; sometimes they're going to be smart enough to where you can only use it as a reaction.

Caitlyn is her easiest lane, though, by far. Just raise the shield and walk all over those traps. Boomerang Blades for days.

Yeah I heard about that haha

I agree that it is very hard to time E well, but that is a personal skill thing, not a bad ability. I usually get baited into using it very early, or I use it too late (and end up mashing the E as I get stun locked by the enemy team), but it is invaluable when you get it right (Suck it Blitz, I know you needed that hook, thanks for the mana bro!).

She has one of the highest winrates of all ADCs currently with a high pick rate. Your critiques are not incorrect, but you're forgetting that she's one of the few ADCs that can initiate.

I see, thank you for constructive criticism :)

I seriously doubt 50 range is the difference between being able to kite or not

Sassmast3r1 votes

Well, perhaps I phrased that a little too strongly. It's challenging to kite with her in comparison to most of the others due to her low range is what I was trying to say. It's not that I don't think she can do it at all, I just think it's much more difficult for her to do than other ADC's.

She applies her passive on her spells as well as her auto's, and both her Q and W can hit enemies from quite far away. Her Q and W do an absolutely absurd amount of damage in a teamfight. Her E and Ult are two of the best utility spells in the game, and make her pretty much ungankable after level 6. And between her passive and her ult, she's also basically inescapable, so whenever she gets a lead on you, you are fucked. Sivir is one of the best adc's in the game and has been for a while now; not sure what you're talking about mate.

Sassmast3r1 votes

I did not realize her passive would apply with her spells as well, that changes quite a lot, so thank you for informing me of that.

She has some of the best waveclear in the game. She has a spellshield which is absolutely game changing on an ADC. She has massive damage on her Q, teamwide initiation with her ult, and she can use her W to artificially extend her range by a pretty large amount.

Sivir is an extremely good ADC. I would put her in the top 5 without question.

I disagree really.

Though I do hate her ult. Seems super lame for an ult.

Q - excellent harass and waveclear W - excellent waveclear and good way to hit the backline during a teamfight without getting out of position E - you time this right, you are a god. Out of mana during the laning phase? Bait a spell from the support and now you're good. R - peel for the support, engage with the support, make your teamfights look like a scene from the Fast and the Furious.

She's amazing, what are you talking about?

And she is is one of the most competitive ADC pick in LCS.
