Support Kills (mini rant/note)

Raksha··13 votes·1,092 views

This has happened far too much for me to leave it unsaid. I am a supp main and I get it, I'm not supposed to kill. That's the adc's job, right? I'm just supposed to feed them. However, on the chance that, A, I accidentally kill them, B, they were going to get away with a sliver of health and I doubt my adc would have made it in time, or C, I killed them before they could kill a low health teamate, I'd greatly appreciate not getting bitched at for it c:

(Rant part) It frustrates me greatly when i get an accident kill or i killed an enemy before they got away (that my adc was too far to reach) and the rest of the game my adc is ticked at me and shouting in chat because I got the kill. A 12/4/3 Lysandra mid was pissed cause i got 2 kills (one because she was low health and i assumed she was going to return to base and the other was a team fight and it was an accident) and my 2/0/2 adc ditched me after an accidental kill near the start. The amount of kills I had by the end of that game? 3. Just 3. But the ENTIRE game mid hated me for it and my adc stopped talking to me. (Rant end)

Look, it makes me scared to attack enemies for fear that I will kill them. I've let a lot of enemies escape not because i thought it was dangerous to follow or because I thought I couldn't get them in time, but because I knew killing them would only invoke the wrath of my own party because I'm a support. Just a support. Can we please fix this mindset? League is becoming less fun with all the blame games i've seen in it. People screw up, i know. Heck, i don't mind people yelling at me in chat if i actually screwed up! If i messed up, let me know, I'll remember for next time. I do mind when its cause i did something that if any other role had done, they wouldn't have cared. Please, just think about this and pass it around?

People who complain about Supports 'taking kills' are bad people and bad players. It's not the supports job to not kill people. They're there to protect and empower, and if they get a kill in the process? great, they probably really needed the extra gold anyway.

The people that complain about KSing are in Silver or Lower. It is the Elo. Once I got into mid Gold, those complaints stopped occurring completely because those players have a better understanding of the situation and the game.

Edit: Also, you are Sona. You are permitted to kill people, especially if you are going a more damage route. I do take issue with you taking teleport. Exhaust, or hell, even heal would be better from a team perspective. You take TP to return to a solo lane OR to TP for a gank. Sona is too fragile to really TP into a fight and I doubt you are TPing back into lane to freeze the wave for the ADC. Besides TPing back into lane without the ADC is dangerous. You two should always be together until level 6.

Thanks for the advice! I hadn't thought of it that before. I'll start using heal and exhaust more then. I hadn't really understood why they were more important, thanks for explaining it c:

Typically the support takes exhaust (as an initiate of a fight or to peel for the ADC) while the ADC takes heal.

I have seen the reverse though. It is not great to have double heal in the bottom lane since the healing rates do not stack. Some supports, like Sona, will take ignite in order to give the ADC an early kill.

People have told me to take exhaust before but I never understood why until now. It seems I'd been underestimating its potential. I'll try to get more used to using it now, thank you.

Go ham, take ignite!

Taking weird summoners on support can work if you cordinate them with allies. I doubt anyone would expect Sona to appear in Top lane witu a quick E burst for a top, jungle, sona gank that results in a fast tower. That is as long as the adc can hold lane without needing a baby sitter, which some adc can do pretty well.

I had a game where I accidently took smite flash on Leona. That was one of the funnest games I've had as Leona. Blue smite plus green hp buff and cinder aura was super fun. And the dragon clear speed was absurd early game :P

I think kill stealing is a thing, but when it happens it has to be VERY obvious E.G. a vi uses q to fly in and blue smite

if a support or jungle takes a kill I don't really care as long as they contributed something to getting that kill, even if it was just a few autos

Considering that you're in low elo, I can see why this thread exists.

Though just a reminder that higher up people will start to care less and less about kill stealing, unless it's on champs that require early kills to sustain their own snowballing. And even so, a single kill or two won't hurt as those guys can still remain relevant with some gold. If anything, sometimes it's much better for supports to get early kills because they don't get to farm, and an early lead to rushing sightstone and/or tier 2 gold item can mean a lot.

If I were you I wouldn't worry if you took like one or two kills out of ~10, but even if you're taking more than half, it's more on the ADC on never able to get kills.

Ok, thank you for your input! I'm really happy I'm getting such good responses from this! It's taught me a lot, thank you :)

if i apologize with a "my, bad, sorry" people are fine with it, but every now and then I'll get someone who keeps going at it, but there's really not much anyone could do in that situation

Good point.

As a former support main, i dont remember getting bitched at for securing kills, especially if it's an the enemy adc, because 1) my adc gets to farm, 2) if my adc has a problem with the 150g, they'll have a bigger issue with getting 0. I know were you're coming from and all, but the higher the elo you are the less people care about supports taking kills. It still gives them the advantage.

Raksha1 votes

Ah. It's probably because I'm in a low elo then... Does this mean when i get to be a higher elo i won't have to worry about people raging at me as much?

Mysticman891 votes

Rage in general I find is indicative of low elo (and in some cases probably linked to why they're low elo).

You'll get ragers at higher elos too of course, but they're a bit rarer since most people who got to gold or beyond got there since they realised raging is counterproductive to climbing.

Raksha1 votes

Ah. I'm not much of a rager, but I see it often, that suddenly explains a lot.

Your kda with sona is really low. If you are going to KS...you need to carry games as support. My kda with sona is like 7.5. Plus you die WAY too much.

Raksha1 votes

I'm still learning, so any advice would be much appreciated if you don't mind! Do you have any tips for sona?

And then there's "Lux support"

Got downvoted by a lux "support" that starts doran's ring and builds full damage without any utility.Wow, what a surprise

Lol, I don't give a shit if I accidentally kill someone. If I know my ADC will definitely get the kill, I just stay back and do nothing. But if I'm not sure or the situation is very tense, I just spam my skills and whoever gets the kill gets it.

So what? The enemy ADC is gone and my ADC can farm in peace. Win win, no matter how you look at it.

No such thing as a KS in a teamfight imo. Once everyone groups all bets are off.
