Why does riot hate silences?

When they removed LB's silence they said they wouldn't remove talon's. Now here we are on the PBE, and Talon's silence gets removed with a 0.1 SECOND SLOW. There's so few champs with silences now, I hope they don't touch cho'gath's or garen's.

I'm assuming because there's no counter to it. And Talon could literally all-in you, kill you and get out without being touched. It was WAY too overpowered on Talon.

But his new one is replaced with a 0.1 second slow, which won't be able to apply to his passive since you barely have enough time to AA.

The point of the PBE is to try things out. You can't possibly argue that Talon being able to disintegrate players with no ability to react is exactly fair. He's an AoE assassin, he doesn't also need CC.

If they remove the silence, I vote they rename the ability.

The whole reason assassins slit throats (back in the day) was because it prevented the victim from crying out. And THEN they would bleed to death.

You can't make noise when the air that's supposed to vibrate your vocal cords is escaping out the side of the trachea before even reaching the larynx.

Hamstring.

Talon doesn't strike me as a very subtle or quiet assassin, what with the giant flying metal disc storm when he kills people.

Well you're certainly right about that lol

  • Kassadin simply got free harass when using Q. You couldn't use a spell back, even AD casters have trouble. He's still got a lot of damage, even post rework, but can't just mash Q and beat anyone.
  • Leblanc Could QW in a very short time if you were in range to AUTOATTACK MINIONS, and, even worse, had one of the highest bursts of any champion. She can 100/0 squishies all day even now, but at least they can respond. QR basically guaranteed tons of damage and a silence to anyone who could not respond in about 0.5 seconds.
  • Talon Is up next since he can easily just EQW and then ult as soon as the silence wears off for more than 3 seconds of damage immunity from casters, which are his main opponent.
  • Soraka got her point and click silence removed since anyone she fought basically lost to her Q spam and silences, resulting in nerfs and a rework incoming.

Notice the pattern? All are point and click silences. I believe Chogath Won't get hit since his is very short ranged and is a cone, not a point and click, as well as cho'gath being(most of the time) a tank.

I'm afraid what they'll do to Fiddlesticks then.

His silence is point click, AoE capable, possibly bounceback rehit.

Marthian1 votes

Yeah wouldn't be surprised if he lost it as. I also wouldn't be surprised if he got reworked. His fear has no counterplay either since it's also a targeted/click ability.

Cho and Garen also aren't purple, which might help

In all seriousness though, I think also that it has to do with silences on assassins; Soraka got her silence removed for the reasons you stated, but she arguably got a more powerful spell in return (AoE silence + root). Assassins generally have high burst, which is hard enough to respond to without being silenced in the first place.

Also, I think Talon needs some more compensatory buffs, a 0.1 second 99% slow is just odd; why not just give him a root and be done with it? The mistake with LB was that they took her silence without giving her anything in return, and now they have to go back and buff her again because she's too weak.

Viktor says "hello."

A mere half second silence on his non-targeted ult with smaller AoE than Blitz's? Better remove it.

MrBuffington1 votes

lol I dunno, maybe because it's an AoE that's mobile independent of his champion? (it's his ult right? the cloud thing? I honestly can't say the last time I saw a Viktor in game)

RomanorumLegio1 votes

The silence was only applied at the initial cast. I could not silence anyone not under the initial cast. I main him, btw. :D

Weird, I dunno then lol

Who said he was not about to get a silence? i remember thay they were working on that too. Silence itself is not a problem, it is when it generates unhealty situations where the target is unable to react to a short burst champion.

I agree that 100/0 champs with a silence are overpowered. But the point of silence is to prevent you from reacting. It's there to create a window of opportunity where you can go positive in the exchange. To say that it isn't fair to be able to ensure a champ can't react to you is to say that all stuns, silences, and suppresses are unfair. I actually don't mind Talon's silence. Assassins are supposed to all-in you and take you out quick. I do think that assassins should not be 100/0's The enemy needs to be whittled down a bit first. Then a healthy burst should kill them. Being able to one shot someone from full health is OP. So then, maybe it's not Talon's silence that's unhealthy, but his damage potential is too high.

At least Talon can be hit by AoE and Skillshots when he's invisible from his ult. I managed to hit him with Xerath's stun ball after he ulted once. Felt good.

gut him his damage and he will become only useful as a bruiser, gut him his silence and with few touches he is already on his feet. If you want to keep the silence on him then you have to remove all his burst and allow the targeted mage to react after the silence duration, thing i really can' t think in a assassinish version for talon. Probably as a escape solution would be good, but what tells you that won' t be used offensively? Also for example let' s make that talon silence is distrupted on enemy attack, that attack is already an attack too late for the enemy to react. because he chains everything too much fast.

Talon has a kit with many weak gameplay design point, all of those evolve around the silence. Then, why take away everything but the silence when you can just remove the silence to make him healtier?

Yeah that's great for Talon. But it isn't fun or fair to whoever he's killing. No one should have an ability that guarantees a kill unless the enemy can do something to prevent it. (Veigar's a pretty huge offender as well.)

Zed is supposed to take you out quick as well, but at least if he Ults you, you can disengage from him.

You're not really supposed to be able to get out of the death blow of an assassin, it kind of defines the archetype. All I'm saying is that the assassin is supposed to wait for the enemy to be weakened and catch them off guard. The problem with talon is that he can catch you when you're not weakened and still beat you. Assassins should be squishy and get punished for jumping on a target too soon. I get punished all the time for jumping too soon as Akali and not giving myself an escape. That's how an assassin should be. Secure the kill on a low-health opponent, but get stomped for trying to burst someone who has too much HP left. That's why I think his silence and his dash aren't as much of a problem as his insane damage.

Silence on an 100/0 champion leaves very little room for counterplay.

Saint Tyrone 1 votes

They should at least increase the slow duration to 1 second but decrease the slow drastically.

Essilyn1 votes

They wouldn't touch Garen's because you can be like, "Stop it Garen, that tickles!" and walk away.

Stacona1 votes

Riot does not hate silences, it is the toxicity of hard cc (silence) and high mobility of assassins they dont like and is very overpowered
