what would the opposite of power creep look like

I have some questions for the boards about power creep and reverse power creep

Power creep is when everything gets buffed too much and nothing gets nerfed, there are lots of examples of power creep, but what about when everything gets nerfed too much and nothing gets buffed?

What would reverse power creep look like? How would it be different than power creep?

Would it be worse, the same, or better than too much power creep?

Would it be a problem at all?

Thing is, thanks to base stats reverse power creep can’t really happen in this game. Things can overall get weaker, but only down so far.

Overall it’s better than actual powercreep because it increases actual counterplay.

Power creep isn't just the lack of nerfs, it's when new changes and additions set a slightly higher standard for what is "balanced", so old things need to get buffed to be at that level. Then the next new, even stronger thing comes out, and the cycle begins anew.

The opposite would be power decay, where when something new comes out that is weaker than the status quo, everything gets nerfed to match that new thing.

It wouldn't happen naturally.
