Every game I pick Leona, the enemy support is Blitzcrank (well, a little bit exaggerated). Is Blitzcrank seen as a counter to Leona in Bronze? Because I thought Leona countered Blitzcrank. Why do so many supports counterpick themselves?

She ruins forced engages She does not let you speed boost away She will fight you even if you put on a tough act She will not roll over and die just because you silenced her She will not stop attacking just because you pulled her away She is not afraid of you
She doesn't actually counter blitzcrank, she is just everything blitzcrank doesn't want to play against. She is a real tank.
They probably pick blitz because they don't have many other tanky supports that they think can stand up to Leona. They probably also don't actually know how Leona works, most people don't even seem to know what her passive does or that she can 1v1 you at some points in the game.

Switched with some asshole in the lobby who doesn't want to play it and you don't main it either ? Pick Blitz. Going up against a support you're scared of and don't know how to counter ? Pick Blitz. Got support and feel like you wanna carry hard ? Pick Blitz. Don't have that many support champs ? At least you have Blitz.
Blitzcrack is like a cure-all in Bronze for people that don't really play support but have to for one reason or another. It has nothing to do with counters. Blitzcrank and support are almost synonymous in Bronze.
