Team builder was hands down the best thing riot ever made!

-Pros Can play whatever because it wasn't ranked Could be a captan to remove teammates that were not wanted by the premade (assuming you werent alone) Instant Q's for support mains Had Somewhat fairly skilled teams Guaranteed role/Champion No Dodge Penalty

Unfortunately Rito didn't do enough to make it perfect (no offence but nothing is ever perfect)

-Cons Non-Support mains 10-30 minute Q's Always got trolly team mates that u had to take if u wanted a faster Q Wins don't improve Elo so try hards didn't play it Elo based search made games slower No Dodge penalty

and then you had to wait 10+ mins just to get a single support to join your team or 10+ mins to be able to get into a game if you queue'd as mid

never had that problem.. support main -----> Me

Was garbage tryhard bullshit thanks to being able to kick people for any reason at all, and not having bans. People only used it to enforce the meta and play broken champs that were permabanned in draft.

It was the exact opposite of what it was created for.

If you're referring to try hards in the idea of creating a broken team comp with four other players, people can do the same thing in dynamic que, so that's a pretty moot point.

The real problem with teambuilder, and the only one that existed in my eyes, was the fact that que times took forever because nobody ever wanted to play support.

From a "get my role" perspective, team builder was most useful for mid lane players who had to fight and hope for their role. And least useful for support mains who could always get their role in draft or ranked.

ranked has other advantages over team builder for support players. Your fed team mates do not squander the win by ROFLing in circles getting killz farming their "S" while you have to sit your under-golded character in a bush and wait for the game to end.

very true.. but in my experiences.... i found it was more fun then blind and better then ranked.. i could do with a friend and be bot lane.. oh Fiddlesticks and Tryndamere per say.. and accept like mid garen, jungle sona (that would never happen) and top poppy and just have alot of banter because u always got the role like ranked but without the pressure of if u lose every single game forever you werent put in bronze 5... ranked is when u wanna be a try hard and team builder was like the lazy river equivalent of the ranked syster

it was perfect in THEORY.

in reality, the queue times were HORRID.

Depends what you queue'd for. I went support, had queue times measuring in seconds.

Ayyyy, Supp for life Thresh

HeeroTX2 votes

Unlike now, where queue times are dreamy?

Leetri1 votes

Unless I played support I regularly got 20 minute queues in Team Builder.

HeeroTX1 votes

Are you a mid main? I admit its been a while, but it felt like I averaged about 5 mins, maybe 10. Right now I average 3-4. And let's be honest, many people have asked for "single role" option in the current champ select, if they got that the queues for single role players (not playing support) will be comparable with what Team Builder was. (unless you like to play a popular role AND some kind of weird way off-meta pick)

Leetri1 votes

Generally mid, but I got the same queue times when picking jungle. I'd find a group instantly, but then I'd have to wait 15+ minutes for a support. Eventually you'd just pick whatever support you got, even if it was Garen.

I enjoyed it. I could practice the champions I wanted while avoiding Vayne and Teemo ADCs.

Simpumba2 votes

I liked it a lot, because as a ranked player, I could que up for mid only, and get my role. I have no issues playing normals, but if I don't get the role I want to practice there's no point in playing IMO. Sadly they took it away. which was a poor idea.

Flitchee1 votes

There was not a ranked teambuilder, so your first sentence makes no sense, and why bother practicing in normals unless you are higher than plat? half the time your normal games will be harder than your ranked ones.

th3chosenone2 votes

He is saying, to practice mid for ranked, it was nice to go into teambuilder and be certain he would mid with the champ he wanted to practice with and playing normals isn't a better alternative because he might not get the role he is trying to practice.

Thank you, you get it!

I liked team builder, and yet I'm tempted to down vote this thread for the click-bait title...

Witch of Babylon1 votes

How is it click bait?

AnonymousPoro1 votes

Although I loved Team Builder, this is clearly click-bait.

Gelmous1 votes

teambuilder was a nice feature yeah

Keevalroy1 votes

That's...not really an unpopular opinion.

Auroramancer1 votes

Ah Team Builder, swell with 30+ minute role search times and 5+ minute queue times. Great in theory.

Don't bring it back

Better than getting a team where 20+ minutes of my life is just flaming and thinking how it went so wrong.

Auroramancer1 votes

Implying that didn't happen in team builder???

Kingnewgameplus1 votes

Personally I'd rather wait 30 minutes and get my role guaranteed than wait 20 minutes just to not get my role.

Sylvant1 votes

Imo team builder was the test mode needed before they can introduce the new queue system, which no doubts has flaws, but its the best we ever had(now beat that unpopular opinion).

I Like Teemo1 votes

u mean like the fill option? because after u pick it once "Get one of your roles gaurenteed" even tho thats the point of picking 2 roles

I like the current draft mode. Pretty much the same thing unless you have support or fill secondary, and much less wait time.

Marshbouy1 votes

"unpopular" LOL

I Like Teemo1 votes

I've honestly never heard a single person say they liked it.. so to me it is unpopular... everyone i know hated the mode at the time.. because unless you were a support main you always had a long wait full of just whatever you could take to make the q shorter (and if they did bring it back i would remover elo matchups... would make the q's shorter and games more fun lol... just match B5's with Master/Challenger players and boom instant fun)

VoraciousX1 votes

They may as well make Normals titled "Ranked Practice" now. It's like people FORBID off meta stuff in normals now, and dodge unfavorable matchups. At least Teambuilder was a new game every game, rather than the same champions every game in the same roles etc. I didn't mind waiting the 30 minutes for a game SIMPLY because no one knew what I was picking and it wasn't this whole "Well, can't play that champion now, have to pick someone else" game before the game even started. You either got lucky or unlucky with the counterpicking and you had a chance at least to do whatever the heck you wanted. Also a lot of people hated Teambuilder so I dunno how clickbait this actually is. That's why it was 30 minutes to play because people didn't actually play it that much, they either played draft or ranked draft, or sometimes blind pick(though I preferred TB to blind pick anyday) It's also annoying how often I don't get my primary role.

DREADN0UGHT1 votes

Totally agree. Teambuilder was the best system Rito ever made.

Kotex1 votes

I didn't hate it at all by far but personally i dont want it back either because, again personally, im fine with this draft and i have been. I mean i can see how someone thats trying to really be a HARDCORE main 24/7 trying to play that one role, one champ for every game, but for people like me that don't care about doing that in such a reverent way is fine. The two roles i pick are the ones i want to play and i will get one of them regardless. So far its been a issue for people that want to hardcore main one thing (Mid for the most part, and top for the second) only like thousands of other people getting it before them.

Critmaster Garen1 votes

teambuilder was garbage.

it only allowed to que up with a single champion for a single position. almost everyone whos playing this game has a small champion pool hes dedicated to. and many people are proficient with a certain champion in multiple roles.

it was too restricted, since it outright didnt allow you to que up with a champion for multiple roles, and to que up with multiple champions youd be willing to play.

the teamcomps that resulted were entirely random and lacked synergy.

and since it was so restricted, and people couldnt fill other roles if needed, que times were horrendous.
