AP Itemization Diversity Ideas

>I'm not too into the balance scene, but one thing I think might be interesting to add diversity is add magic crits (outside the ones that some abilities can inherently have, maybe make these unable to have RNG crits). They don't have to be the full 200% damage of an AA crit, as I think that would send us into a worse state than when DFG was an item. Maybe only like 120%-150%. I think this would allow people to opt out of a item 3089 and instead opt-in for magical crits, allowing them to possibly deal more damage than if they had a item 3089 and flat Ap items, but at the cost of being at the will of RNGesus and having the chance for you to deal the damage of a mid-build artillery mage when you try to burst someone. One thing to do to discourage stacking AP crits and item 3089 would be to give item 3089 Negative crit, something that reduces critical chance but not below 0% to avoid making it a must-have in conjunction with magic crit. > >Another thing is to reduce the number of items that give CDR. From what I've seen people always go for the Full CDR builds on mages so they can just cast spells all day and not have very much down time. This could work in conjunction with magic crits, where instead of being able to cast spells more often, your spells can potentially do more damage. However I understand that this might hurt some mages with self-peel, so maybe those abilities could gain more from CDR? For example, if I had 10% CDR that ability would behave as if I had 10%-15% based on level. This would also mean you'd have to define what counts as self-peel, which means you'd have to get a bit creative. For example, you could make it so that Fizz E was counted as self-peel if he decided to use the second cast.

That might hurt assassins though, because it would make having a item 3139 and an item 3814 a must, so maybe give assassins a new item that gives more Tenacity than item 3111 (melee only though so ADC's don't abuse it). Or maybe give assassins inherent base tenacity? Inherent base tenacity might buff AP assassins too much though because they would be getting magic crits and more mobility/escape opportunities.

> This could even solve the problem of ADC's being too powerful, as instead of nerfing them you could bring other damage dealers up to par with with them.

That would hurt tanks a bit though, so maybe change the numbers on some tank items to better suit their tanky-needs.

>I've also seen a few complaints about item 3146 being too much of an omni-tool. What if you just removed it and brought back Will of the Ancients? You'd still have a primarily AP item that gives sustain but without the AD and burst active. It could even be one of the items that gives magic crit, you might need to take away the CDR on it though if you went that route.

I understand that some of these changes might call for numbers changes to many items, specifically the tank ones to compensate for potentially more or less damage coming from mages.

If you see anything that could cause a problem, feel free to talk about it in the comments, but please don't be a d*ck about it and just kindly point out a problem you see and provide a potential fix for it. Also please don't just say "lol this is garbage these ideas are too op." Provide numbers and be smart if you're going to shoot down all of my ideas.

I really like the idea of magical crits. I always wondered how broken champions like Ahri Annie Katarina Evelynn would be if they had a magical type of lethality. Not the same as what you were saying but it's different like your idea which I loveeee.

Yeah, I've seen things like this before, where people suggest magic crits, but nobody really extrapolated on what else you'd have to do in conjunction with them. People usually just shot it down completely and they'd say "Do you know how broken that would make (insert champion here)?
