What would happen if...

So I took two weeks off from League to recharge & I come back seeing alot of Negative feedback about the Jungle changes.

One thing that caught my eye today was a comment made on a thread pertaining to these changes, stating that we might start seeing Duo Top again.

What if? - We do see Duo Top compositions? You could have a Top laner (Bruiser/Tank/Light fighter/etc.) Partnered up with a tank support like Taric. Mid & Bot would be unchanged. If the Botlane needs a gank, the midlaner could do what they need to a mid & to bot like they do normally. The support who's with the top laner can gank mid when his/her partner backs.

What do you guys think? Are there any draw backs to this team Composition? Do you think it'd work in today's game?

The major issue with this is that shared lanes get experience at a slower rate than solo lanes. Meanwhile, there's a vast wealth of gold and experience in jungle camps. By going double top, one of two things happens.

  1. Both teams go double top, and gank pressure/objective control is inconsistent or
  2. Only one team goes double top, the duo lane now gains experience more slowly than the solo opponent, while the single jungler has absolute and uncontested control of the jungle on both sides, and objective control throughout.

What if one of the top laners take smite and occassionally roam to farm jungle/gank lanes? Kinda like a bard. The two of them can roam and the 'support' can help clear camps or simply stay top? Smite is a necessity regardless, but I figure it's an idea.

Yeah. There are drawbacks.

They're called the fact that you leave baron, dragon, and all 4 buff camps largely uncontested then.

On top of that, junglers are the only role that can easily roam and gank. Some laners can, but it's fairly obvious it's happening to anyone who pays attention. This means they can keep lanes that would be losing even or even get them ahead, and they can start a snowball in lanes where it's an even matchup.

Duo top will never beat the 1/1/2+1 we have now simply because of those two things, as long as there are viable junglers (meaning anyone who can clear half-decently early on).

I would think both supprts would have to take smite (maybe the ADC in bot instead) then they would have to rotate into the JG, either one or both laners to take advantage of the exp and $$.
