I'd like to start this off by saying I'm not much of a Ranked player. However, I recently went through my placements, and was surprised at how little I was Autofilled. From the various complaints I've seen on the Boards, I thought I would be getting Autofilled every other game. However, I was only Autofilled for two of my games. It just makes me wonder, how much people really get Autofilled.
I think the boards tend to exaggerate things. Out of 10 games I tend to get autofilled 1-2 times. I queue for jg/mid if that helps.
Three factors to consider:
Sample size Bronze/silver contain some 60-70% of the [ranked] player-base. During placements, you float ambiguously in that range. Meaning there are more people to pull from for each role than in higher elo.
Selective memory People are more prone to remembering negative experiences than positive ones. Riot did a demonstration of this back on the old forums for toxicity. People who posted as consistently getting trolls/feeders/afk's/etc. in their games got a free 30 game review. On average, only 2-3 of those games exhibited any noteworthy level of toxicity. Safe to assume the same thing is happening with people who don't want to be auto-filled.
Vocal minority Not everyone has a problem with auto-fill. People who have nothing to complain about, have no reason to speak out. Conversely, unhappy people generally have something to be unhappy about and a vested interest in speaking out against it.
Actually. These factors apply to just about anything you read on the forums. XD
EDIT: Not relevant, but given the topic. . . I personally have never been auto-filled. I also rarely see mention about being auto-filled. But, as a support main, I rarely lose auto-fill protection either. So hard for me to empathize. (>_>)
What happens is you get people who feel personally offended that they could ever be autofilled into support and dodge the game. Since they never actually play out a game where they are autofilled, they never get the immunity period where it's impossible to be autofilled. Many people include champ selects where they personally dodged when claiming that people get auto-filled all the time or multiple times in a row.
Out of my 16 Flex Queue games queuing Mid/ADC, I've been Auto Filled zero times.
Out of my 13 Solo Queue games queuing Mid/ADC, I had a support duo partner for about half of those games games, but I haven't been Auto Filled in my solo games there either.
So... yeah. 29 games no Auto Fill yet.

Although I always have Sup/Mid, one game I got landed into Mid instead of Sup. Surprised and devastated I was. (:
Gut feeling: about once in every 20 games for me. I usually queue up as top/mid. Low Plat ranking. I get auto-filled into jungle and support at roughly equal rates.
Bot/support and I was autofilled 4 out of 10 placements

I find I get autofilled only when I duo with a friend. When I solo it isn't often at all.

I'd say about 1 in 10. And most of the time for non-support roles (about half of the autofills I get sup, the other half top/adc), someone will trade if asked nicely.
9 out of 10 times I queue up while autofill is up. I don't really care about supp because usually somebody offers to swap, but I got autofilled as ADC a few times(about as equal times as support shockingly), and nobody wants to swap into such a bad role atm. Sad part is I prob did way more when playing stuff like Veigar "ADC" than actually picking an ADC.
I play Flex, but queue as Top/Sup and almost always get Top actually. I don't think I've been autofilled although I've trades with people who have been.
Never. I actually main support. Autofill immunity is sweet baby.
I have support/bot and I get support pretty much every game but I do notice a lot of people get placed into adc when they don't know anything about the role :/
as a top/mid player, i get filled once every four games or so (including the two autofill protected games after the previous fill)
but then again, top/mid player lol
(although I don't mind autofill at all)
as a support, not very often, but i do have streaks where i get someone on my team who is autofilled. It probably averages out to about 1 in 4 games where someone on my team has been autofilled and assuming the sameish rate on the other team that means every other game has an autofill one way or the other.
About once every four or less games.
Or rather, I would, if I wasn't instantly dodging the moment nobody responds to my swap request.
I personally rarely get autofilled (but when I do it's to jungle and not support >_<). However, I do get autofilled supports in ~40% of my games.
I've only had it happen once every 10-15 games, so not much.
I am a support main so autofill doesn't happen to me.
But what the board complain about autofill isn't an individual's chance of getting autofilled, but rather a team's chance of having an autofilled player.
I normally only get auto filled like 1-2 every 10 games. Nothing to gripe about because you get a few game immunity right after.

i dont really even notice getting autofilled unless its into the marksman role that fucks me, don't really get autofilled too often though today and yesterday combined i was autofilled twice, once to middle and once to support.
I am Low ELO. Apparently, every one of my games has an Autofilled individual. I queue up as Jungle/Fill/Bottom. If our team didn't have one, the other team did. If the individual makes a lot more mistakes and does not optimally use their champion at any point, then they're typically an Autofill.
When I played a lot of ADC, my support was often Autofilled, so they didn't do a lot of support things they needed to for us to secure a win. Even if we demolished lane, they'd overextend and pretend to be the AP Carry anyways...just to die a gruesome death and give us a 4v5 situation. If they weren't an Autofill, then they'd at least try and stay close to me regularly during fights.
I've noticed more Autofills will typically flame and provoke negative behavior. A lot of the time, I've seen them basically say "whatever, this isnt even my role choice" and play haphazardly for the rest of the game.
The thing is, it's not only about PERSONALLY being autofilled. It's more about how many games you have someone autofilled what so ever. Since they are for sure going to be worse at that role compared to the one they play every time, and are very likely to perform worse than normal.
Lets say you being autofilled in 2 out of 10 of your placements was exactly the chance of being autofilled, 20%. This means that on every team with 5 players, you would expect on average one to be autofilled on each team. That means that auotfill effects the vast majority of games, and usually in a negative way. Since people do either very poorly, pick leblanc support, or just dont want to play another role and have less fun.

I queue for Mid/Top and I get autofilled once every 7 or so games.
I get autofilled about once every 15-20 games. It reminds me to stop spamming one role and to switch it up.
I rarely see myself autofilled, but every 2nd game I get a teammate who says they got autofilled asking for a trade.
