Why is essence reaver bad on Ezreal?

My runes are 10% CD, with armor and ad. So I've been trying lucidity, trinity, essence reaver and last whisper as the core build. So I have 40% CD by then. I haven't had a bad win rate with the build... I in-fact carry with it. Why is it bad? I know the passive doesn't do anything to your survivability or damage... but the CD LS and 80 AD are a huge plus for an AD caster. Hell, the passive is a definite plus. I know going manamune is really good so why not get , , , , ? If you think about it, the more mana you have the more damage your manamune passive does... and reaver helps keep your mana levels stable. So why not get it? I just haven't heard a good reason not to get it.

Most people think it is just not worth it due to how long it takes to get it. By the time you save up enough money to buy Essence Reaver (after your core items are already purchased and all), you won't need its passive anymore. If there were a baby item like a mini-reaver that helped you deal with mana during laning phase to build Essence Reaver, it would be more popular, but there isn't. Usually my only reason to buy that item is to keep Muramana toggled on and manage to hold my mana bar at around its half all the time.

Plus, that item occupies a slot of an item that could be used for a better needlessly large AD item that would more easily make up for the fact that you delayed some power for yourself by buying a tear of the goddess.

The item isn't bad strictly for Ezreal, its actually not very satisfying for nearly anyone really (except AD Malz hehehe)

I like it on Ashe, and sometimes Sivir. Sivir really likes it. But itemizing for it is awkward, since its build path is identical to Blood thirster. So why not get BT if you have the parts anyway?

It's not?

He's one of the carries that benefits most from it, but Essence Reaver is generally seen as a sub-optimal item mainly due to it only helping you once fully completed, as Sooko pointed out.

It's not a core item, but it's definitely an optional one if you want to be spam happy and still build like a traditional carry over a blue build.
