Mid lane

Riot, I used to love playing mid. It's perhaps the lane with the most diverse champion pool, as assassins, burst mages, utility/support mages, adcs and even some melees have been viable at times.

Well, I don't feel like that's the case any more. Mages are in a bad spot right now. Mana regen nerfs and adc itemization buffs made them irrelevant in extended team fights. Even in lane, they have to compete with each other, as their differences are not well defined; there are dozens of immobile mages with a high impact ults in game already, but a select few make all others redundant outside of counter picks. Why pick Lux who struggles with mana sustain while farming in lane when I can have Xerath, who has equal or longer range, better CC, and a mana gain passive or Orianna, who can win teamfights with a single ult+W?

Assassins have the same problem. You nerfed so many of them, that it's either Zed or Ahri (who never lost her CC, although she's slowly turning into a more standard mage with the changers and DFG removal) and Katarina in solo queue. Still, they are becoming the norm in lane, as they are free to roam bot and get fed, making bad matchups in lane irrelevant.

And then the reworks/changes. They are often extreme enough to kick a champion out of lane. Top has pretty much become the safe haven for any mid laner who struggles mid, as no matter how much they are underperforming, they can still harass a poor top laner and get some farm. Who needs a tank when you have Lee and Jarvan in the jungle anyway. Fizz is the latest example, and I really doubt you intended for AD Fizz to happen, who's in contrast to his entire concept and identity. Same thing happened with Gragas, will probably happen to Kassadin, while Zilean becomes more of a support now, again all leaving the mid lane. I could sort of excuse you for Lulu (not really) as she was supposed to be a bot lane support, but her trip to mid lane was more of a meta call against assassins, yet you were quick to nerf her (even hurting her support role in the process), when it took you until this season to take another look at assassins. And even if she still sees some play now in LCS, she's there to provide another source of peel for the precious, teamfight-winning, objective securing ADC.

Speaking of ADCs, and your hate for bot lane champions taking a stroll to mid lane, it's kind of amusing really that an ADC currently has such a big impact in the game that even (or should I say especially) professional teams choose to put a second one in mid lane to free farm, kill towers and help with dragon.

Surely, but steadily, I feel that top lane will become the wildcard lane, and mid lane will be limited to a select few assassins and slippery ADCs.
