Why do people play Gnar?

He's not a good champion. Anything he can do, other champions can do better/more efficiently and having to teamfight around his transformation is so freaking hard. Please stop picking him in ranked.

He can bully lane pretty hard and Megagnar HURTS. He is definitely hard to play and I know I and a lot of people who I see play him suck, but every now and then, you see someone who actually knows how to use him completely stomp EVERYONE.

those 'someones' tend to be people in diamond or master or challenger that have very high mechanical skill not so much in gold/silver elo. dont pick him in ranked. please. Megagnar hurts, but he's not unkillable. And you can kill him before he even transforms because he can't really control his rage meter well enough for him to 'use it' effectively.

No, I mean like the someone I played against the other day who went 6 and 0 against our top lane and then proceeded to solo kill our mid lane and myself the jungler (we were both ahead and three man ganked him) and went ahead and hard carried his whole team that was behind. I don't even play ranked yet, but People who spend the time learning how he works seem to actually get really strong.

right, but when a teammate asks you very kindly not to pick gnar because it does not fit at all into your team composition...please be considerate. there are far better champions that do more throughout all stages of the game.

I mean, what kind of comp are you trying for, a siege comp? And in low elo anyway, you don't really go for a certain comp at all. You just grab something and go for it.

i dont know about you, but the only way I got out of silver at all was to pick according to the composition of my team... Picks like gnar are very hard to pick around. because he isnt super good outside of mega gnar form. His slow isnt harsh enough nor does it last very long, and other than that he doesnt do that much damage if he cant get 3 hits off.

Really though, he's actually very good when you learn how to manage his rage right. My brother plays him a lot and Gnar has a great initiate, especially in tight quarters like baron/dragon pit or the jungle. I've seen him get five man stuns with his ult and turn around the stun three of them again with his W. Near instant ace after that.

Gnar is extremely powerful, but difficult to use if you can't manage that rage.

Gnar is an excellent champion, he does require mechanics; but essentially he is an easy champion to learn once you get around the rage meter. If you buy BOTRK, SunFire, then Warmogs; you are able to sustain in Gnar form and turn into Mega Gnar a lot faster. He is a great tank and can kite without worrying about mana.

To be honest, he really is a good top laner. If you take some time and learn how to manage your cd's and your rage, you can become this unstoppable ball of fluff. The best part of gnar is his ability to deny in the top lane. With his q and his w passive, he can really pack a punch in lane. And if you plqy properly, you should always be able to get into mega gnar by the timenof a teamfight

Why does everyone talk like Gnar's only good at team fights when he's in Mega Gnar form? Do people forget how powerful his w is? Sure, he can obliterate everyone with his ult, but that's assuming he has an opportunity for it. Meanwhile, in Mini Gnar form, he can melt anyone as efficiently as Vayne while still being insanely tanky. I main Gnar, and even though I totaly suck at managing my rage, I still tend to dominate due to Mini Gnar's mobility and damage.

Not trying to sound harsh, but yeah, I suppose Bronze 1 Gnar's are subpar, because he has quite the skill ceiling.

A good Gnar is a fucking nightmare, tho, he has tons and tons of free stats, constant and reliable poke and dps when mini and a huge burst of damage when he transforms. Add that damage to the fact he can bounce while transforming and slam your enemy agaisnt a wall and shower them with more damage and another stun while your team adds their own damage, and that's a lost teamfight.

keep in mind, this was before they adjusted his rage management...and...well over 4 months ago upon release, gnar was NOT in a good spot.
